Reporters should be more careful in quoting back to previous earnings calls -- Luca and Tim said that Mac sales would be down because they had the M1 release the previous year and alluded to not having M2 to comp it (which they then came out a few months later in the current quarter, which is accurately reported), it's not that "everyone bought during the pandemic and now don't need them" since the pandemic started in 2020. Nobody needs a new iDevice every year, and Apple knows this. Innovation is slowing until batteries improve to maintain or lengthen life because new features will take up more energy/processing power, but nobody would want it at the expense of battery life. Apple is undoubtedly against tough comps, especially with the Holiday quarter (their Q1), but from a long-term perspective, since they are conservative in spending (no major layoffs so far), and have many different revenue streams. The business model is strong -- don't need to be first, need to be better. And having services support hardware allows for those add-ons to provide the incremental bump.
