Is the new Fujifilm XF 56mm f1.2 R WR way better than the legendary 56mm f1.2? Yup. Better sharpness, better bokeh, better autofocus, and better close focus. For the same price as the original lens. This video is just a formality. If you're a portrait, wedding, documentary, or family photographer that shoots Fujifilm... you need this lens. End of discussion.

What's your go-to lens for portraiture on the Fujifilm system?

Just got mine in the mail the other day and about to use it at my first wedding. Curious to see how it stacks up to my favorite 50 f1.0. I can already say I'm LOVING the size and weight. 😂

Hi Reggie - do your color seetings also work for XH2S?

Nice review Reggie. I have just bought an X-T5 and this new 56mm f2 R WR lens. Great combo.

No way I’m selling my 50 f1.0 for this even though this looks like a great lens. I recently got the X-H2 and the performance and sharpness of the 50 1.0 on that camera is like night and day from my X-H1.

which one would you prefer if you would pick just one lens for travel XF18mmF1.4 R LM WR or XF56mmF1.2 R WR? I will be using it with XT-5 Thanks.

I pre-ordered it the moment it was available. The 16 1.4 and 56 1.2 have been my two favorite Fuji lenses, so the improvements to this new one are a no-brainer for me. The first time I used it I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and responsive it is and how little it hunts compared to the Mark I. Even at f/2.8 I find the backgrounds just dissolve into dreamy abstraction. I am hanging onto the original for the time being to be able to throw it on an old body like the X-E2S (and because the market's going to be flooded with them right now), but I don't see ever going back to it for any serious work.

Thank you so much for this review! I loved the 56 1.2 R but it has a really annoying focusing bug with the X-T4 - I've been on the 50mm 1.0 ever since I upgraded from my X-T2s because of that. I've grown to love the sharpness and autofocus improvements the 50 has over the old 56, but I miss that small size SO MUCH. This review had the exact info I was looking for, thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

3:34 Fujifilm has incorporated 8 elements with the lens focus group that move when focusing. Thus they have managed to minimise aberration fluctuation from infinity to MOD, by moving the aperture together with the lens focus group.

To move the focus group, a DC motor is used for autofocus. They have incorporated three bearing mechanisms with the DC motor for smoother autofocus performance. The bearing mechanics ensure highly accurate control of the DC motor.

It's a technical masterpiece. —Fujifilm

Such a nice lens. Now rocking the 23mmf2 and the 50mmf2. It feels so tempting to switch out the 50mmf2🙈😵

Hi Reggie, very nice initial review! Your content is always honest and inspiring. I’ve learnt so much from you here on YT as well as your IG.
Speaking of the lens, I already have the 50mm F1 and am sticking with it. Yes, it is larger, heavier and not as sharp wide open, but something about that bokeh at F1 - F1.4 on the 50 F1, it is smoother and creamier (not the amount of bokeh) and also the fall off between in focus and out of focus is still nicer on the F1. But the biggest draw for me on the 50 F1 is actually the focal length itself. 50mm is just that little bit wider than the 56 and I do find it more versatile, especially in tighter environments. I think the 50 F1 is very similar to the GF80mm F1.7. But love that Fujifilm now has two equally fantastic portrait lens to choose from! Happy shooting!

So for some reason I am not experiencing fast auto focus at all. So jumpy and slow on the XH2s firmware is 1.01 and camera is 5.01. something is definitely not working right

I love your videos. I have problems with my eyes so I will never be a real photographer but I love making photos. I can buy old used Fuji 1.2 56mm for 560 euro. Is it wise to buy it? Or better save money and buy new one. I have only 18-56mm. Thank you for your help.

Would you sell the fuji 18 55 for this lens, and would you bypass the 16 55 versatility for this lens, and keep the 18 55, or just ditch the 18 55 and have this and a 18 120 fuji lens. I have a Viltrox 13mm 1.4 lens and it is quite a keeper I think.

Is there any aspect where the sigma 56 1.4 is superior?

And what about the viltrox 75 f 1.2 (maybe the A.F.?)

Thanks Reggie. Wonderful video. Stunning photo example. And what exquisitely beautiful children. Btw, I am using your two recipes and really loving them. I have been resistant to going JPG. Not anymore. Many thanks for sharing them.

I’m fortunate to have picked up the 56mm WR and shot my first wedding with it. It performed well enough, but I had to revert to my 18mm f/1.4 and 33mm f/1.4 for the very lowlight venue with black ceilings (ugh). I sold off my previous version of the 56mm for $450 and am not looking back. There are a lot of incremental improvements that add up, just as Reggie pointed out.

Ok I need this lens now. Thank you so much for your review and pics of your ADORABLE family, I needed some real-world (not event-type) photos to make my decision.

How does the new 56mm 1.2 wr compare to the 90mm f2 in terms of sharpness and AF speed?
