Pathfinder Gathering Volunteer Challenge 2023

Shoe was a part of the volunteer team at The Pathfinder Gathering Thursday June 15th, 2023 through Monday June 19th, 2023. On Sunday night the volunteer team was given their own challenge for the first time at any Pathfinder Gathering. The challenge is to use one stick, one knife, and one ferrocerium rod to build a fire. The stick the volunteers were given is green wood. The task involves breaking the one stick down into small sections for fuel, as well as creating shavings, feather sticks, and small tinder for kindling. Then the 90 degree spine on the knife is used with the ferrocerium rod to create sparks. The total time for Shoe to complete the challenge was 20 minutes and fifteen seconds, including the explanation from Dave Canterbury. We are so thankful to The Pathfinder Community for the opportunity to serve with great friends! Special thanks is given to the instructors whom you can hear guiding the contestants throughout the challenge. During the video you can see another successful one stick fire completed by one of the many instructors. The talent and knowledge that these guys have to offer is incredible!

Im going to get there someday and make a weekend out of it. I need to try this with green wood and practice as these skills are easily lost without it. Good job here-
