Skymaster Twin 110mm EDF On FIRE!!!

I was getting ready to take my Skymaster EDF for a spin when the plane caught fire. YEP! Literally on Fire!!! Turns out that one of the ESCs I was using failed and went kaboom!!! This is going to be a costly repair! Thankfully the jet was on the ground not in the air.

Sometimes failures provide learning opportunities. I learned a lot from this experience. First and foremost, I underestimated the risk of an on-board fire. As such, I did not design my 12S batteries to be easily unpluggable/removable in the event of a fire. I'll be addressing this in my repair/layout redesign of this jet.

Secondly, I need better ESCs preferably with temperature telemetry/ monitoring.

Third, when you have a jet that pushes out 12-14kW of power, you need to be alert. Monitor ambient temps (this day was a 90F+ day) and make flight decisions accordingly. Conduct thorough preflight checks. Have a fire extinguisher ready! And even with all that be prepared just in case!

I realize this happened a while ago and you have repaired this. Thank goodness it didn't end up worse! That could have gone very badly in a hurry! Fortunately composite holds up better than foam!

I've had bad luck with those esc. Had two of them go bad on me. Been using the Hobbywing since then. I notice you don't use AS150 connectors. I used them for two season. One you don't get the spark which over time your connectors will be tarnish. Secondly your not sending a rush of current to your esc. My thinking is that that rush of current to the esc could cause damage over time. Just my though.

You'll get the problem work out. Good thing it wasn't in the air. I've have that happen to me two times lol.

Sorry to see that happen but I don't trust the gecko line that much. You should have probably used Castle. I hope it gets repaired quickly!
