Netbooks were a massive craze back in the mid 2000's powered in the main by the Intel Atom CPU. Since then the size of windows and its demand for resources means these devices are becoming e-waste. What is we could find a better OS to breath new life into these diminutive devices? Well that's the plan...

I understand that this video is 10 months old, but I am curious to comment.
10:59 The little circle on the right shown on this screen is a sort of countdown to the automatic execution of the selected item.
Therefore, the actual startup time is 1 minute and 30 seconds, since the time from 5 minutes and 14 seconds when the countdown ends to 6 minutes and 44 seconds when the desktop is reached is the actual time taken for loading.

Love this! In the netbook heyday you could swap the wifi card on most of them for a specific Dell card and run Intel OSX, which actually ran smoother than windows Vista on my acer aspire one! I don't remember which version I used, I think it was 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 snow leopard that were the best for netbooks. I remember you had to swap the wifi card because there were so few that had OSX drivers at the time. You should give it a whirl!

Nice video! Kind of excited to see how ReactOS works, and which Windows drivers will actually install. Would be nice if the GMA 500 driver installed there.

Also would be eager to see how ArcaOS runs, especially with DOS, WIN16, and WIN32 apps as well as Linux via Orca!

And for a runner-up… Haiku. See if Be-OS inspired shenanigans get that super lightweight vibe going for better support?

Plus I think a GMA500-DRI driver existed once upon a time.

Have you got a Sony P tablet? It was a favorite of mine. Great video as always!

WTF - antix has some wild ass views. Is it possible to get software that's made by people without mental disorders in the modern era?

I think your video playback woes on Linux are because there isn't actually any graphics acceleration going on with the GMA500 - if I remember right that chip uses a GPU from PowerVR rather than an Intel-designed core. Put another way, it shows how good the little Atom CPU is at software rendering, considering how snappy the overall UI felt!

I still run LTSC on a couple of older laptops, activated with MAS and have the WIndows Store (for Spotify etc) added manually. Works great on older dual cores and early i5 etc. The modern web is just too heavy for single core Atoms, I tried to get my old Dell 910 running properly and even lightweight distros and supposedly minimal browsers (that just look worse while not being any faster) couldn't help it.

Wow that thing is tiny... _and weak..._

Btw you should run an adblocker on this. It will massively help performance in browsing and youtube vids.

Nice video!! I have a thing for small and handheld PC's so you have a new subscriber!! I own a Sony Vaio VGN-P15L, (imported) and, while I love it I don't have a lot of time to play around with it. It's a really awesome form factor and I've considered trying something other than Windows on it but again, haven't had time. I've considered selling it but haven't been able to bring myself to yet, lol

I decided to look into it after this video, it looks like the default video player on AntiX just doesnt work, try using MPV it at least works for me with MP4 and MKV files (didnt have any AVI to test with) you could also install VLC if you like. the MP4 was only 480p but the MKV was 1080p and outside of not fitting on my little netbooks screen it ran fine from a flash drive.
