I'm just starting home production and, while informative the videos are, it really is a kicker that when I go to grab these it turns out they don't exist anymore.

I love gain reduction but the SSL makes the kick fit better in the overall mix. With that said I like the tightness GR gives the toms but there's something about that kick drum i don't jive with. Thanks for the great content guys!

I love Gain Reduction like no other, but it's not true at 6:50 when Fluff says you can't buy the Waves SSL G buss compressor separately. It's usually around $29-39 on sale as an individual plugin. You don't need to get it in the bundle.

loved that A/B with the SSL at the end. don't know if i agree with the "punchier" part but the JST definitely sounded warmer if that makes any sense. great video as always.

the bottom end punch is not as full in the Waves model. The JS Gain reduction is actually compensating for frequency as it relates to the compression. The waves is obviously adding the same amount of GR across the board. So the JSGR is actually responding more like a multiband instead of an opti-fet-tube or standard compressor. At 60 bucks it is worth having.

With SSL you can adjust the compression time and ratio.

Guess the SSL with cut through a the mix better when there's a lot going on. For music with more space Gain Reduction will probably get it a bit denser

this comp has fixed attack and release, this really makes a difference... by the way i was hearing more attack with the ssl and more snare bottom with jst

Hey Joey and Fluff, this video helped me out so much as I kept struggling with stock compressors and a few other ones but never gave JST Gain Reduction a try, I thought I was supposed to use it only on the vocals. The JST GR when compared to the SSL Comp definitely stands out, it gives a high-end boost around 3k to 5k I guess, SSL sounds a lot darker and less punchy, but it'll work with songs that are slow and don't require that high end on drums and need it to be dark like ballads etc.

Can you please make a video on mastering using JST plugins? I'm struggling with Multiband Compression and I guess Transify will help me out a lot with it.

Thanks!

Nice! I hear more low end out of the SSL Comp. But Gain Reduction seems to help the drums cut through the mix more.

Thanks for this piece of information, it makes a difference. I'd like to ask you; do you use this parallel compression and the sends or inserts? Thanks again.

Indeed the GR offers a bit more saturation compared the SSL G Bus, which fits the song. I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other. It really depends on the musical context. Nonetheless GR is one of many great plugins from JST. Cheers!

Waves has sales often and that ssl can be bought for 29 bucks.

Joey doesn't use parallel compression.

Lol jeeez... REALLY tryin to sell gain reduction 😂 totally unnecessary to shootout with the SSL. Gain Reduction is literally my most used plugin and I'd pay twice as much as I did. It just works, like, every time. It's THE magic plugin.

a good method, I will definitely try in my projects
I often use this jst compressor on vocals and a little bass
