When Erdogan got elected in 2003, majority of those who voted for his party were baby boomers and older generations and the internet and social media at that time wasn’t widespread. Now there’s a generational shift, the baby boomers are retiring and their numbers becoming smaller as the same time millennials and generation z are taking over and they’re not much influenced by religion like the previous generation and are highly educated. This trend will continue and soon we will see a democratic secular government in Turkey but they learn from past mistakes, that they shouldn’t go too far in suppressing Islam like before instead lacité Secularism should be replaced with an American Style secularism which is allows freedom of religion unlike lacité freedom from religion Type secularism. And I hope the day we see Post Erdogan 🇹🇷
