Ma'am- I have owned both for years and you have explained in 2 minutes what usually takes 8 pages of forum posts and the quibbling over minor details that usually ensues.

Thank you! I wish Diane could explain everything in life to me in this straightforward way.

I bought a 000 Martin guitar a few months ago after trying an OM.
Why? - not because it was easier to bend the strings-
but because it was easier to make barre chords
and because I have smaller hands and it was more comfortable to make chords and stretch for notes farther away. It seems like my fingers fall exactly where needed to fret the notes.
Also, as a smaller person, the 000 is more comfortable to hold than a dred or jumbo.

The 000 fits like a glove. I wish I had understood the advantage for me of short scale
when I first started playing.

Having owned (loved and sold) an OM-28 John Mayer, I was familiar with the differences bet. the OM and the OOO. But Diane's explanation was the best I've seen/heard. She makes perfectly clear the issue of scale length so slower people like me get it right away.

Oh my goodness, ok - I love this woman.
I've been sitting here thinking Martin 000-15sm or Larrivee OM-03.
I believe I'm going with the Martin.

The wider nut on the OM gives the strings a little more spacing between each other - which is preferable for finger pickers.

Best explanation I've ever heard, thank you. Why does Martin make it so complicated, lol?

Thanks Diane for explaining the difference of the two lovely guitars...

The different respective scale lengths for the two body sizes is true only for Standard Series models and up. But I do wish Martin would adopt a standard across all of their series.

She told us everything I wanted to know in less then 3min! Brilliant! I hope I get the chance to buy one 000 some day. Those babies are quite expensive here in Brazil. But it worths it! Deffinetly a guitar for life!

Been lucky enough to own a dready, an ooo and an OM. The OM I play every .single.day. The others were passing indulgences unjustifiable @ my level!
This lady explains sooo well, love it 😊

Thanks for that perfectly clear explanation. However, I must note that I have a 000X-1 and it has a 25.4” scale. I bought it as my cheapo “beater” guitar to take on camping trips, but it is pretty much my favorite acoustic. I play it more than my D-28 because it is so comfortable, and the intonation is perfect.

I just bought the 000-12E Koa for fingerstyle, but the cool thing is: the nut is 1 3/4". Whereas other 000 guitars usually sport 1 11/16th". By the way, I absolutely LOVE the 12E!

It's a great way to explain because it seems impossible as they have the same amount of frets to body and total. but obviously the length of the neck itself changes the dynamics.
