Sonny Liston:

A man who grew up as an illegally kept slave on a plantation, A man who was a homeless child who went onto become a juvenile felon just to survive while sleeping on park benches, A man who had no formal education, A man who had to fight and claw his way through over 5, 000 men boxing to the death as a teenager just to have a chance to have a second chance at life, A man went through life with devote faith inside of the Catholic religion, A man who dedicated his remaining portion of his life to make a positive example for troubled youths through philanthropy, A man who was employed by the mob as a legbreaker, A man who was once thought of invincible, A man who's life cam crashing down with realization of defeat, A man who turned back to crime with it being his own undoing, A man who was in the end left broken and alone, A man who's life and legacy is largely unknown and forgotten,

Sonny Liston,

"A man"

Rip Sonny Liston🙏🏽. The most misunderstood fighter!

He was hated because no one knew him. He loved children and helped orphans. He was not perfect but like most people he had some bad points and some really good points. It broke his heart when he was deplaning and no one was there to greet him.

Sonny had that gentle side in him, I can hear it in his voice despite his rough upbringing plus the way he was addored by George Foreman was marvelous

Don't forget him. He was created. He was a good person. Its only circumstances that led towards everything else.

I've read in numerous boxing biographies that fighters such as George Foreman, Cleveland Williams, Sonny Liston, Joe Louis, Earnie Shavers, Jersey Joe Walcott, Ken Norton and Joe Frazier would seclude themselves on remote farms preferably near a lake where they would run the trails in the morning in heavy boots, chop wood, throw bales of hay and row around a lake to supplement their training which was very simplistic but taken to the absolute limit of rope skipping, heavy bag, speed bag, sparring and calisthenics and yet they all had some of the best speed, punching power, stamina and physiques the heavyweight division has ever seen.

Sonny Liston. The most underrated man in boxing history, this man was truly great just like Muhammad Ali. No one understood Sonny for he was not as appreciated as other boxers were. He worked so hard to get to where he reached and never gave up until he died. This man's legacy, and greatness will forever remain in my heart.
