Back in the 70s I was learning to fly and I took many a cross-country flight to Hagerstown Maryland and got a burger and watch them test fly the New A-10s coming off the production line there. Fairchild was an old family aircraft company. Mr Fairchild use to fly into our airport every now and then, he loved his STOL aircraft because he flew to his office off of route 270 and he'd land in the parking lot as there was no runway there.

i may be wrong but I think the A-10 is the most loved fighting machine.

I'll never forget walking the Clark Air Force Base flightline circa 1988. Rows of F-4 Phantoms looked they just rolled off the assembly line. Those aircraft had probably been out of production for a couple of decades. I really like the Air Force dedication to having perfect airplanes. The Navy and Marine Corps equivalent were leaking oil, hydraulic fluid and smeared with grease from Carrier flight decks.

Can you include metric equivalents for all the distances, weights etc as your feet/pounds are meaningless to anybody not in US?

Typical load out for a GAU-8 is 1050 rounds. NOT THOUSANDS.
