RIP Quincy Jones 1933-2024. My parents named me after him because they loved his music. It's a honour to be named after one of the greatest musical legends of all time. ❤️

Diane Ross, Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Michael Jackson, Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, and Stevie Wonder are some of the era’s brightest stars who gathered to sing in the choir for "State of Independence" on his production of "Donna Summer" album.
It was here that Jones formed the basis for his landmark “We Are the World” production in 1985
"When Quincy calls everybody comes, " said Donna Summer in an interview.

"Living Legend Indeed" were all the better for it...from Lionel Hampton, Leslie Gore, Sinatra, Ray Charles to Dinah, first of Firsts...Miles to Vangelis name the music he covered it as a man of all hats, no they were crowns because he reigns in every thing he does/did and was shaped by music. Having to endure hardship and hard times and then thankfully being blessed with that spark for the keys of your life an ignition to life from music, then destined to making music, a gift for all of us. May the rest be your best with "Luck be your Lady" whatever you choose. It's your party, "In other words", as you already know life is a gift. Thank you for keep show'in up with swing and perfection Quincy.. All of your work from Thriller to all your commission scores and every thing in between. Finally your love of beauty, ooh la la, sharing that taste in music. in closing, I feel blessed for having witnessed your work, seen "hired hands" like Coco Taylor, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon in one show in Chicago long ago, to "Let the good times roll". As Miles would agree "the box doesn't exist", for the gift of music, especially in a world of self preservation where composition context is so vital. Thank you for having the street sense to live life, love life, despite all odds, , sharing that experience. Loved all of this interview from Dinah to Lipton, from the highs to the lows, it was an eye opener. P.S. Here is a high of mine in return: I once saw Dizzy at "Jazz Zoo Series" in Cinti. Oh. long ago. At break, thinking I'd have a pen at the end of a long line of auto graph hounds, I was left standing with paper and no pen. Upon Dizzy obviously seeing this, I hear Dizzy say, "Whatya want me to dooo...sign it with my finga?". For you Quincy. Thanks for posting, Part 1.

I was born in 1950 to parents whom were in the surfing world Hawai’i … so no clue about Quincy back then. Just wish there was a second part to this wonderful documentary! When I was living in Seattle 1981-2001, I got to see his idol at Jazz Alley, Dizzy, just before he passed late 90’s. And while studying dance became good friends with a pianist who had studied under Nadia Boulange … and the stories about her were amazing! So loved hearing more about her from Quincy. Thank you for sharing this great documentary and after doing deep dives on Michael Jackson, can imagine their time together so magical.

It seems that Quincy was born with various aspects of music lodged in his brain. More than that, BAKED in.

Genius hardly adequately describes him.

Beginning at 43:15, Herbie Hancock is describing having heard Quincy Jones' composing, orchestrating, and arranging for the film, "The Pawnbroker." Then, the video changes to a notated musical score for "The Pawnbroker." However, the music playing underneath this section of the documentary is not from "The Pawnbroker." It's actually from another Quincy Jones film score, called "The Deadly Affair." The piece featured is "Main Theme: The Deadly Affair (Version No. 1). Be sure to also listen to Versions 2 and 3 from this soundtrack album. They all are simply hauntingly, arrestingly gorgeous!

Forgive the redundancy if others have also commented about this. But I thought this should be noted and corrected, both in respecting and honoring the tremendous talents and genius of Quincy Jones. And I want listeners and viewers to be able to find and listen to both (indeed all of Quincy Jones' amazing wonderful body of work) these beautiful film scores.
