Ebike Project S02E02: Salvage 18650 cells from corroded ebike battery w/ water damage

Extremely corroded 48V Li-ion electric bike battery from water damage. It looks like trash! Can I still salvage the 18650 cells? Let's find out.

One of my controllers couldn’t receive power and I found a small amount of corrosion on the back row of the battery cells. I don’t have the assembly parts/tools right now to deconstruct any further but I highly suspect this is the problem.

Wtf guys?? You dont ever take off the blue plastic! The exposed body is negative and it shorts very easily exposed !

Is important to take off the plastic from the battery and clean them with wd40 or something like wd40...👍

riding home my bike suddenly died. shut the key off and turn her on
wont start. the display would only turn on when I pedal. Got home to
check. The shrink wrap was damaged by me zip tying the controller to
it by vibration. To my surprise a puddle of water build up inside the
frame submerging 1 of the cell quarter inch. God know how long it was
wet for . 1 CELL has a little rust on it. The BMS did not get wet.
Shes been drying for more than 24 hrs and still wont turn on. You think
my Battery and Controller box is TOAST ? What needs replacing thanks.
My kit is 48 v 1500 watt. Also she wont charge when plugged,

Who ever built that Pack used Nickel Plated Steel Strip ( Not Pure Nickel ). When the water got to them Electrolysis set in and Wasted the contacts. If they had used real nickel that pack may have survived the Water Egress with little damage.

The BRAND IS HEADWAY. 18650 cells are not made for retail use so very selldom there are BRAND names on them, mostly rebranders put their cells on them.

Take some wire brush and wd40 and clean rust off the battery's take of the plastic insulation and clean them check for the holes in the battery's... 👍

That was a large battery for an ebike. Maybe try building a battery pack with 4 modules of 13 cells each and then test the range.
