I bought this for my 74 year old mum. We went with the luxury trim so that adds the HUD, upgraded seats, upgraded sound system, upgraded safety package and a few more bells and whistles.
Was able to get the dealership throwing in lexus 4k front and rear dash cam added. She was driving the Toyota Corolla hybrid... reason for buying as mum always wanted a premium branded vehicle but never can justify one for herself. And since i purchased my tesla last year she always commented on she wanted to buy a nicer car.

Cars i was considering was BYD dolphin, Mercedes A Class... BYD dolphin was nice but mum felt it was going to be hard to get used to and she wasn'ta big fan of the looks... A class was nice but mum worried it was European and worried about maintenance repair cost.
Went with LBX because she it was small and she really liked the looks and liked it as it rides slightly higher than her Corolla. she said it felt the similar in terms operating the vehicle as her Corolla. However still have a few extra features and materials looks a lot nicer compared to her Corolla. So for mum's use case it was perfect as she don't drive with any passenger 90% of the time. Her car is used for grocery runs and social outings with her friends who all drives mercedes, bmw audi or volvo etc...

Paul regarding B mode -it is for engine braking - like going down a steep hill - nothing else. Toyota/Lexus don't recommend you drive in "B" mode on normal roads. It's purely to save your brakes down a steep hill.

Take a shot every time a reviewer does not understand how b mode works in toyota hybrids.
The system does not recuperate more, it uses both the transmission and ice to slow down the vehicle when in a steep downhill descent.

Actually on "B" mode, if it's like other Toyota hybrids, it's more specialised use case. It's suggested use is as engine braking on steep descents - it's how it's listed in the instruction manual. The charge that goes back into the battery is comparable to the charge that you'd collect in normal "D" mode.

Beautiful car especially the range topper with black wheels. That small size and height would make it one of the easiest cars to manoeuvre. Good job Lexus

That knee room in the back is a dealbreaker. No wonder you dont see too many of these on road despite being 5 months since launch

Wow I'm impressed with the lane keeping in that upper lane, I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle hold it, let alone dead center 🏆🏆🏆

Might as well just get a CH-R at that price point. And even that points to the ridiculousness of how Toyota’s pricing stuff as of late.

Thanks for the review Paul. I’ve been waiting since its release to hear your review as you are probably the only person I listen to.
I’ve had my eye on his car for about 12 months

Went to the pre-release event for this here in the UK several months ago. Lovely little car. Seen plenty on the road now.

They should have just made it a 3 door. Absolutely no point in marketing this as a small suv. Does not make any sense. I’ve noticed this with a few other cars in the segment..

I think it's a cool car. It's based on the yaris so sporty drives are kind of pushing it to a stretch.. I mean you can't exactly be expecting an AMG killer out of a 1.5 60kw engine can you? If you drive it the way it was meant to be driven with efficiency in mind you'll be impressed. But if you want a sportier drive then the LBX GR (I don't know what it's called exactly) will give you what you want. Not everyone is as tall as Paul. I'm 175cm in hight and I fit in small cars to be honest with you.

We test drove an LBX and really liked it. It was so beautiful inside and out. However we ended up buying a Toyota RAV4. A similar price but the RAV can tow and has a spare tyre.

We wanted a car for both city and our farm. The RAV4 suits us more. If we wanted only a city car the LBX is the best car for city driving.

Keep seeing the ad for this in the cinema, hasn't worked yet.😅

Australia is the only market that has black as the only LBX interior colour. Even NZs tiny market gets multiple interior colours. As a Lexus owner this is a deal breaker as all other Lexus model gives buyers a choice of interior colours. Black is so impractical in a country like Australia.
