As a W211 E63 owner myself, the earlier models of the M156 engine is prone to have a headbolt failure. It can break and let the coolant into the engine and cease it completely which is very expensive . I personally experienced the problem myself. Do check for the faulty engine number of the faulty model from the mb database.

very good review! You hit all the key problems with the vehicle. Perhaps note that the m113k engine especially puts out a lot of heat. The heat does a number on all the rubber vacuum hoses, electrical insulation on wires and the damn plastic y and t connections on the radiator hoses which will disintegrate and cause the coolant to leave the engine in a rapid mannner.

I have a w211 2009 E63. So far owned it for 12k miles and it is now on 145k miles. The only issue I had so far is the rear main seal leak which cost $800 to fix at an indy mechanic in Texas. Otherwise, the w211 cars are pretty easy to maintain in my opinion

The SBC can be reprogrammed for dirt cheap and still work as new since there's nothing wrong with it, it just achieved the programmed amount of breaks.

Mine has had a faulty air suspension compressor. Dealership gave me a quote of £1200 to replace. Bought one from E-bay (brand new aftermarket) for £138 and replaced in 40 minutes. I can imagine a Mercedes technician can do it even quicker so don't think that is a fair price from the dealership. Definitely not since I know the material would cost £360 the rest of it is the labour. The aftermarket compressor works 2, 5 years ago.
There is one thing regarding the M156 engine which is becoming a common issue. I know because mine has got that issue between the firsts, but since that I found many others reported. That issue is the fuel injector can stuck when it is open, so it can pour petrol into the combustion chamber very quickly causing a hydrolocked engine. I was lucky because mine done it when engine was off so after the first cranking it got locked but the connecting rod did not bend.
The injectors are cheap and even cheaper because the dealership gives some money back to you when you returning the old injectors, so it's highly recommended to change them preventing a catastrophic engine failure.
Also because the angle of the 2 banks the intake camshafts can running dry after the engine start up which can cause pitting and scoring on the edge of the lobes. Also the hydraulic lifters can stuck which can cause the same issue.
Camshaft adjuster locking pin and it's hole can be worn in high mileage cars as well which can be difficult to diagnosed without removing the rocker cover.
Yeah it's a very good advice to buy a well maintained car and should have another 5K in pocket for major repairs, but at least you can buy a car like this for 1/10th of the new price, so I think it still worth to have one.

I heard that the E55 AMG, and most V8 Mercedes of this generation are the most reliable, any V8 from 2003- 2005 i heard someone say.
