I loved this song the first time I ever heard it. It is so beautiful that almost 13 years ago I told my fiance that when we married I wanted this song to play. He agreed. Everytime I think of this song I get tears in my eyes.
5 years after we married my beautiful husband became permanently disabled. He had had an aneurysm blow in his brain when he was only 25. He almost died but he did recover. Apparently all the symptoms of a stroke can return. No one ever told him that, though. So when it happened 30 years later he was only 55.
Our lives were turned upside down. "All the residuals (symptoms) of the stroke" returned. He no longer could drive, nor walk without a large wheeled walker, and he had to leave his job. His memory was impacted badly.
These days I sometimes sit out in the sun remembering when we also walked hand in hand through the beautiful forests and wildflower fields up at Mt. Rainier. I also recall when we
first fell in love. All those memories I can recall vividly for him, but he can only recall a few. That he still calls me by name is almost enough. He does not have dementia but the doctor said the aneurysm he had long ago took a terrible toll on his brain. He struggles with short term memory badly. I now do everything he used to do. But, we are still very much in love. I treasure each day that I have him in my life. But Time for him is non-existent. He cannot remember what he did one day later, or even an hour after he has done it.
It keeps getting worse. All I know is that the memories I have are what I must share with him often and in great detail. Long ago we too lay on the grass one Summer night by his splendid raspberry bushes. The moon was bright and we talked for hours. He loved this song, too. I have blonde hair and he thought that this song was perfect to dance our first dance as Mr. and Mrs. And it was the most perfect and most wonderful dance of our lives.

Thanks so much for posting this. I love this video of him recording this cd in his castle. This version is slightly different than the cd version and is so moving. And you put the lyrics too. Makes it easy for me to send to someone so they understand all the lyrics.
I met Sting briefly in New York in 2015. Wish I had told him how much I loved this song. He was genuinely friendly.

This song always had a feel of the composer John Dowland's works to me and I saw later Sting did an album of Dowland's music. Sting is a very well versed and also knowledgeable musician.
