welcome to my channel if your new here remember to like and subscribe👍in this episode we will be testing different ways of stopping the oil cap from bouncing and being under some sort of vacuum unlike the first vid when we added a pcv valve in the system with a catch can. but will it make any difference this time ??

fair play for taking the time to test it all out mate, we have all wondered and now we know! great work!

Hey, my audi tt mk1 (engine swapped with a cupra 1.8T 20v AYP and tuned to 300hp with K04 turbo) was smokin/burning oil at low rpm (<2000) and when the engine was idle (driving with clutch in or just stationairy) so i assumed i had bad valves at first but since it wasn't burning oil on cold start when the eninge was sitting for a day that was ruled out quickly, then i tested the turbo for leaking seals as it appeard to only happen when the engine was hot so maybe it was leaking in the turbo exhaust side and burning it off in the exhaust. but also that was not the problem.
Then i realised i had installed a catchcan but no connection to the intake which the original PCV did have (cloude9customs catchcan kit comes with a nipple to block that hole off in the intake) and so my car had a bouncing cap and was blowing air out the top pretty bad. since i did the catchcan install myself i still had the old broken OEM PCV with a OEM audi PCV one-way valve. so i bought some hoses, connected the one-way valve (its a T piece) to the catchcan outlet where one side before the one-way goes to the Puck, one comes off the catchcan, and the side after the one-way connects to that nipple on the intake where the PCV originally was connected to and now my car is sucking air again from the oilfiller cap, no more dancing going on there and my idle pressure in the intake went from -0.8 to -0.6 bar on my boost gauge.

So in my experience if you dont want pressure building up at idle, causing the oil scraper rings for example to take unnecessary load you should use a one-way valve (preferably the one already used in the OEM PCV to make sure it has the right pressure needed to open and close)

Luv it mate, another great video. So, after watching this pt2, I stand by my comment on pt1. You can also try a weaker spring in the valve which would account for the extra pressure caused by the addition of the catch can.

Hey Chris!

I am stumped. My current setup is exactly like yours. PCV Deleted, catch can. A tee before the puck with a 1 way valve going to the intake manifold like you have here. I use a standard oem valve.

Not sure what the best way to go is!

Put the T piece with the PCV valve in its original spot under the intake manifold, near the spot where the original elbow comes out of the crankcase, before the catchcan with shorter hose. This how i set it up and its working fine.

Hi Chris, I have completely standard PCV/PRV system with catch can added in between rocker cover and PRV. Cap is not bouncing only when there is no middle section between cap and engine.

Just checked my S3 (BAM engine) on standard pcv system (albeit nearly 21 years old) and it did exactly the same thing. Only other mod is the N249 delete 👍

I change pcv valve for first time at 80k km before 2weeks oil cup stop dance….but my oil is 200ml lower after 2weeks and oil cup no dance also no oil on turbo I change it because of oil in turbo…idk delete it?or engine must burn some oil like Audi say

Love a dancing cap! I never even thought about the extra weight in the billeted cap making that difference. Great detail on the mesurements mate. Stop vaping with those valves! lol

So i tried a number of different things on my 1.8t 20v. I first tried with the pcv off, but it didnt run right. Then i tried with it all connected but with not sucking in any clean air from the intake, but the eas too much vacuum, then tried with the air intake but without the puck, but then air came into the head. Then i added the puck again and that cr4ated the perfect vacuum. I dont thing its the valve itself because i bought a metal one from Temu and it works great.

I have catch can installed its vented to atmosphere and my oil filler cap still bouncing is showing on the boost gauge when off the throttle that i have too much vacuum

I have a 2001 Audi TT and the oil cap always bounced. I’m just about to do an oil catch can and I’ll see what it’s like after that.

My old 225 used to have its cap bounce with the catch can, but then that block had blow by and lots of other issues! 😁 Interesting to see that even with the PCV valve in you still get the bounce - I reckon you're right though that the idle vacuum from the manifold isn't strong enough - is there a better place to maybe pull the vacuum from?

Same setup as you with 034 exactly the same outcome. But i have more pressing issues think i bent valves due to a timing chain issue. Find out next week when i crack the cover 🙄

I have standard OEM PCV system only the SAI is deleted and it's bouncing the same. And it was the same before the delete. When I push the oil cap then it stops to bounce and then sometimes it starts to bounce again after few seconds.
I have readed that to much suction is also not good, but then my question is what is the normal amount? :)

Chis it really makes no difference . At idle the turbo is generating so little pressure the excess back pressure is able to escape around the turbo blades, Also in your system the spring in the one way valve isn’t weak enough to open, so what’s happening is pressure builds- valve opens - pressure drops valve closes and the cycle keeps repeating. Really at ideal does the engine really care about the pcv or pressure in the rocker cover as it’s so low. Maybe a better setup is just vent straight to atmosphere. So any blowby can just be expelled under the car.

Hi Chris ! Old video, I know.
I have done exactly the same install as yours, BAM 225 2001.
I found the same catch can on ebay or something ( chinese I guess )
What I did yesterday was to bypass the catch can, direct to the pcv, and then no more bouncing.
Seems to be a simplified install than the OEM one.
So, probably, the can is the culprit.
Why ? Don’t know yet. Maybe too small, maybe to far.
Next will be to replug the can without the grill inside.

Hey man, did you solve the problem? I have the same exact problem with my 2001 VW New Beetle 1.8T,
I've replaced the pcv, the pcv lines and the pcr and still my oil cup jumps

Hey again Chris remember when I mentioned about filing the relief cut? did you try that?, whats the ID of your hoses? also from the looks of it you have your PRV in the same tee with the PCV is your PRV working ok?

Is that pcv valve not normally under the manifold where there is more vacuum?
