Incorruptibles - The Corpses That Would Not Rot

preview_player
Показать описание
Incorruptibles are said to be people whose earthly remains are unaffected by the natural processes of decomposition. Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox belief states that divine intervention can cause this phenomena, and take it as a sign of the person’s holiness.

In some instances, wax masks based upon imprints are placed on the bodies for public viewing. This is due to the fear that the occasional blackish tinge on the face and sunken eyes and nose might be viewed as corruption by the public.

Music used: “Spirit of Fire” by Jesse Gallagher

Lenin was embalmed and the process is re-made every year, he’s is not in the “incorrupte” group

I watched Ask a Mortician in regards to Lenin. He is re-embalmed and only about 35% of his body remains, he's mostly wax.

Based on what I’ve seen here, I think a new definition of “not rotting” is required.

Some of the corpses don't look un-decomposed, but rather dried-out, desiccated, and mummified, like King Tut.

Lenin's body is under supervision 24/7. There's a team of dedicated doctors and technicians taking care of it, his body is embalmed over again every 2 years and the parametres (temperature, moisture, etc) are constantly monitored. Plus, only his head and his hands are from the original: under the suite there's a kind of mould of his body

My late Italian born mother was very devoted to Saint Rita of Cascia. I made 2 pilgrimages with her as a child to Cascia in the Umbria region of Italy where we viewed her remains. Not the most pleasant experience for a child. There is also a rose bush that they say Saint Rita planted, which has bloomed for centuries. My mother kept a dried rose in her prayer book on her night stand for years.

You can easily see the ones that have been covered with wax or whatever they use to make them look more life like.

Saw all the corpses..
Personally I find it distasteful and grotesque to preserve the bodies with their waxy faces.
It's like to a trip through a horror house.
These were normal people once dedicated their lives to God.
But I dont believe they remained fairly intact because they were saints.
They were embalmed with certain chemicals just like the egyptian mummies..

Being on display for everyone to look at for hundreds of years would be hell

Fun, morbid fact: There is not a lot left of Lenin's actual body. What is on display right now is pretty much artificially manufactured.

Maybe I’m old fashioned but how about giving them a respectful burial rather than being on display

As a former Forensic Pathologist and medical examiner, this was very interesting to watch. Thank you!!

It looks to me as though many of the people are decomposing. Just, please, bury them.

One thing to note is that the ones that look like they died yesterday are all wax figures that are on display in place of the actual body. No, no body that is that old is that well preserved.

Those “incorruptible” corpses looked pretty corrupted to me.

These people should have been left alone after being laid to rest in peace, not put in a glass coffins on display for all the world to see.
I would go mental if someone did this to any family member of mine.

Very interesting but some of those bodies were rotting in their glass coffins

According to many, one of the best preserved bodies (if not the best) is the body of a little girl Rosalia Lombardo from Palermo, Italy who died in 1920. Many call her "Sleeping Beauty of Palermo" and her body is located in the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo.

These bodies aren't free from decay.
Some were very much so. Others looked mummified or had been protected with wax or other preservatives.
