This design spot will be about the Covid-19 and its impact on the design of ICU. This is the part 2 of this design spot. The spot will be separated into two main parts.

The first will cover the coronavirus history, major events, symptoms, hospital diagnosis and conventional treatments as well as advanced treatments, such ECMO (Extra-corporal Membrane Oxygenation) and lungs transplant.

The second part will cover the conventional and advanced equipping of Covid-19 ICU units with the total medical equipping cost. Finally, the ICU Design based on the Covid-19 experience and infection Control will be presented.

Detailed Content:
We will start our talk about the coronavirus history, major events, different types and symptoms.

In the second part, we will mention the Covid-19 hospital diagnosis and conventional treatments. After, advanced treatments, such portable heart-lung machine, known as “ECMO”, will be discussed and compared to the mechanical ventilation via a ventilator. During the treatment journey will watch a video for the Covid-19 survivor Mayra Ramirez, who had suffered from irreversible lung damaged and undergone lung transplant. The treatment journey will be ended by the honor walk of Clayton Griffith, the 16-year old hero, who chose to donate his bones, tissues and organs for those in need.

Moving to the third part, the Covid-19 and ICU medical equipment, we will begin with the conventional ICU medical equipment. After that, some equipment in the Covid-19 ICU departments will be introduced. Then, the chaos and the mess created by the congested medical equipment in an ICU room will be discussed concerning the alarm management, infection control and patient’s risk. Finally, some recent or novel ICU medical equipment will be presented with a typical ICU medical equipment cost.

The last part will be saved to talk about the Covid-19 ICU design and infection control stressing the importance of infection control based on the use of specialized clinical hand wash sink, smart HVAC ICU systems, booms, e-glass, anti-microbial paint, vinyl and medical gas outlets.
