This lock is mainly used to lock garage doors. In Russia on most of the garages we have two thick metal hoops welded onto the doors, so you can put a lock through them. So the shaft of the lock goes through the hoops, and the thicker end of it doesn't.

3:32 "If we were to use brute force..." drops an octave "...and we will."

Interesting to see this in 2020, after LPL and Mr. Bill made their famous disc detainer lock pick. Now this would be a covert operation, rather than a smash and grab. Evolution is such a wonderful thing!

The shackle looks just the right size to go into two links of a chain to complete a loop.

This is a great video just on how amazing it is to have so many knowledgeable people meet in one location to show, pick and explain the inner workings of locks in general. Cheers for that

That yellow box of candies behind is one of my favorite (it's not a chocolate and is made from mix of cream and condensed milk). Great video comrade!

There's a technique for Medeco locks by Marc Weber Tobias, amusingly called "pulling the plug on Medeco", which is an attack that works much like this. His DefCon presentations are well worth a watch.

3:00 That thing is called "Vempele", which is, best translated as "the thingy", it's basically a tongue-in-cheek nickname for a gadget. It's more or less the only thing that works with ABLOY locks, and even then as far as i know it's fiendishly difficult

Great video. To add. If something securing brake disc on a bike. Don't damage it. Even a slight bend to a disc will cause bike to loose control... When the brake is applied .

The purpose of this lock, according to manufacturer, is locking up gates and storefront shutters.

Doing a google search this lock is designed as a lock for Suzuki and Renault spare tires mounted
on the tailgate of these small suv's. It also is advertised as a trailer spare tire lock

You could use a "mini bottle jack" instead of the hammer. So there would be no noise.

For looking gates, drill a hole and insert it from the opposite site, sometimes there is a lock on both sides.
