Thank you, Parker! Our faculty development this year has been all about AI and these will prove very helpful in thinking through the issues (which is what really fascinates me about it all).

Cool! When I was 11, I was very excited about AI, and at around 13 (when I had the mathematical maturity to, because I was also self studying math using other books, ) I picked up Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach. I'll make sure to check out these other books too. They look pretty interesting!

The intersection of computer science and philosophy is beautiful, and to me is shaping "the modern philosopher". Spearheaded by minds like Joscha Bach.

Hi man,

for me the Pygmalion(Good AI) & Golem(Bad AI) is very good start how to thinking about the history of sentient intelligence, especially in the context of philosophy and ethics. Thanks for your video, get me hope that maybe my deep thinking session is not weird and will be more important for my future understanding in the world of never ending short content video and text.

Hey Parker! 🤖🦾Where you talk about the Turing Test, you mentioned that if a machine passes the test, it's said to be thinking. Turing himself made a distinction between intelligence and thinking, as "thinking" is difficult to define and the question as to whether machines can "think" would be meaningless. I've actually been studying this myself lately, and it seems to me that AI still cannot form new thoughts/ideas (which to me would be part of the definition of thinking), however it can mimic human behaviour and imitate a _process_ of thinking. I guess the distinction is small, but when explaining AI to someone I've found that it makes the concept a lot less scary.

Anyway, great video and thanks for the book recommendations! Most of these I've never heard of before, so I'm hyped to get into them. I read one of the "A Very Short Introduction" books, on musicology, a few years ago, and didn't realise it was a whole series. My wallet is not happy about this new realisation.

I read the Boden book that you recommend (…..if you can only read one book, read this one….) and I found it a little hard to follow. Boden assumes some level of base knowledge which new ai students don’t have. I also found her writing difficult to understand at times

I’m having a much better experience with the Mitchell book. I’ve just started it but I would recommend this before the Boden book for newcomers to AI

I would like to ask, how many days on average it takes you to read a book from cover to cover ? And how many hours per day you spend on reading ??? Also great video as always, I am learning so much thanks to you !

Great video. Very thought provoking. Wild times we live in.

Leaning on your theologian side: do you see the push for AI as a modern form of Babel?

Also (and please don't waste your time by getting into it too much) do you think AI potentially has anything to do with eschatology?

🤖🦾 I have joined a research group in the tech department at my university in applied AI and I have been following your content! I originally did some research in applied linguistics and then shifted into IT and got quickly interested in AI. The way you approach philosophy and computing is very aspiring

Great video! Exactly what i need rn :)
I'm planning to write my Bachelor's thesis in philosophy (next semester) about mindshaping and metacognition and wanted to include AI somehow as well. That's why it's great that I've found your video. I'll definitely have a look into a few of these books so thanks for the recommendations!
For my BA I'm going to (probably) include 4E cognition and the dialogical self theory (DST) as main components. I'm planning to focus more on the personal (and social) identity aspect so I'll have a closer look into the consciousness and personhood debate. Do you happen to have any recommendations or thoughts on these topics as well?
I appreciate your work! Thanks a lot! 🤖🤳

🦾🤖 Great video! As someone not extremely interested in learning about AI, I found this very informational and helpful to dip my toes -- err robotic toes? -- in. Good stuff!

🤖, I m amazed how well you do things, i have been researching about things like artificial intelligence, how tools are available, how they work, you have been a great person to listen to. I am not from a technical background which is also the reason why i am able to resonate with you. Thank you
