Thank you Vic for the video. I'm a Tuvaluan studying in Australia and since I got here (ANU), I found it very difficult to explain to my friends at University how Tuvalu is deeply impacted by climate change. Well, some, even a few of my Lecturers do not have any clue where Tuvalu is....so thank you for telling the world about my tiny, but beautiful country.

Thanks for the video Vic. I'm Tuvaluan, but grew up in NZ aand now resides in Australia. I also served in the NZ army and was fortunate enough to go home(Tuvalu) and help as part of the Aus/NZ project in the south pacific. Those pits were one of the main focus of the project. Seems like the project on pits have stalled.

9:59 That's cute. They think he's taking a picture, not a video, so they're huddling and posing so he gets a good shot.

Vic, as a Tuvaluan who lives in Australia, i thank you from the bottom of my heart for pronouncing our country's name correctly!!! There are so many posts where this is not the case. Valu is the number 8. Tu means stand. Pronunciations make the name of our tiny nation meaningless.

I salute you!

Vic! Wow, thank you for this fantastic video! My wife gave me a globe for Christmas, and we were playing a game of “let’s find all the Countries of the British Commonwealth”. For some reason we felt drawn to Tuvalu, and decided to learn more. Your video was the first thing that came up, and you did a wonderful job of educating us about this beautiful country! Thank you again, you now have two new fans! Safe travels!! :)

While studying "environment studies" I felt bad learning that if global warming continues tuvalu vanishes by 2035...and it seems to be a beautiful place😭

Thank you for your videos. I am not sure of the date you took these videos of Funafuti Tuvalu but surely it was either before or during January 2018. If I may add on to your commentary, Tuvalu hosted the Pacific Island Forum in 2019 and a lot of development has been implemented prior to the forum leaders meeting (possibly after your video). Those "borrowed pits" (25:30) that the US marines dug up during WWII has been rehabilitated with dredged materials from the lagoon thanks to New Zealand. The old wharf that you were filming and talked about soccer on the beach (3:50) has also been filled with dredged material under the UNDP and Tuvalu government funded coastal adaptation project (undertaken by Australian based Hall Pacific) creating a new waterfront land area of approximately 40, 000 meter squared in size, with beach nourishment works also carried out in a 55, 000 meter squared stretch of the foreshore. The new foreshore is named Queen Elizabeth II park. This park now has a new convention center, executive bungalows, and other buildings build on it. Opposite the Queen Elizabeth II park inland is the fairly new three stories government building which was build by Taiwan (one of tallest and 'biggest' building in the country of about 13 meters, not shown in video; certainly not the church shown in 23:00). Republic of China, Taiwan are the "Chinese" aid donors of which you talked about in the video. Their embassy and flag is seen (13:50) in your video as well. Tuvalu is one of the few nations in the Pacific that has no diplomatic ties with communist People's Republic of China. The Princess Margaret Hospital at 6:45 has also been renovated by Japan Aid, the donor nation who build it among lots of other projects. A new and bigger airport terminal and the Australian High Commission and lots of other development has also opened since your video. Its amazing how such a small place could change in such a short time, thanks to the support of aid agencies and friends of Tuvalu.

Thanks for mentioning the impact of sea level rise on low lying nations of not just those you mentioned in 4:50 but also Tokelau and the Maldives. By the way parts of the area surrounding the runway would be flooded by salt water sipping up from the ground during "king tides." Truth be told coastal areas all over our planet are vulnerable to sea level rise including places like Florida and Venice. Keep up the good work with your videos. Best wishes to you and stay awesome. Cheers.
