(3) Signs that your PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) is going bad.

You have high or low water pressure?...Let's talk PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve). This little unit is used to reduce the incoming water pressure down to a safe & usable psi (pounds per square inch) level. In this video I discuss what a PRV is used for, what it looks like, and ways to determine if it's time to replace your PRV.

You don’t need to make these videos, but you do. And you’ve given me some great informative revision for my exam so i thank you very much sir.

Just the information I was looking for. I like your down to earth way of teaching. There are a lot of unhappy people out there that displace their negativity onto people who put themselves out here trying to help others. Don’t feed into it or let it get you down. I get the impression that you are a good man and I thank you for your help 👍🏻

I'm about to change mine. We shut the water off for a week when we went on vacation and when we returned the valve throbbed loudly while I was taking a shower. I bought a gauge and found the pressure at 80 PSI and it could not be adjusted lower no matter which way I turned the screw. The throbbing has now stopped but I will change it since the house is about 15 years old and I want to try a lower setting then 80 PSI. Mine uses the exact one you show in this video and Amazon right now has it for $66 versus $104 at the big orange box store.

Please don't let the critical commenter cause you to change things too much. I appreciate that you don't have ridiculously loud and annoying music in your intro and that you talk at a pace where I don't have to slow the video down to catch the dialogue. Thank you.

Edit: I Just changed the valve successfully and it's down to 50 PSI as set at the factory. There was quite a bit of water left in the system after shutting the water and opening up a couple of faucets. I was a little worried that the shutoff valve was not working but the water stopped after a while. I had to re-tighten the nut on the pressure valve and get a bucket to catch the water, then I loosened the nut gradually until the water completely stopped. The new valve comes with only one o-ring that I put on the outlet side of the valve and the screen filter that was on the inlet side of the old valve was reused. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Thanks definitely answered my question. Don’t worry about people whining about how you talk people always try to pull you down as you’re on the way up.

Put my shut-off & PRV in a plumbing pit where it comes into the house. Hired 2 plumbers as, I wanted it done quickly, their knowledge of working with PEX, and reaching down to do the work in the pit. Less than an hour and they swapped the old for new. Yeah, definitely worth what they charged.

We are here for your plumbing skills. You offer us more than enough. Trained public speakers are vastly overrated. Um away👍

Haters gonna hate lol. Keyboard warriors are always looking to nitpick videos. Keep up the good work. Nice to see a fellow Georgian 😁.

If it’s high or low, it can be adjusted. That’s why it has an adjustment screw on top.

My house is only 2 years old and has had great water pressure until recently it started having issues. It is fine unless more than one place is demanding water at a time. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold or hot much the second source is needing. It's never been a problem before now. We have always been able to use multiple sources at once no matter which ones the washing machine and dishwasher or shower it didn't make any difference. However, now it turns to a trickle at both locations if i say have the sink running and flush the toilet.

This is the first video I've seen of yours. I haven't even gotten past the first part where you talk about saying um. You're about to give me some valuable information...for FREE! Say um or whatever you want as much as you want!

I had to fast forward to get to the symptoms. You did not help. You definitely lost me when you suggested to pay for someone to do it.
