I’ve been listening to Rock/Metal for about 24 years now. But I’m black and come from a neighborhood where it’s usually looked down upon or talked about if you listen to that type of music. So, I had to hide the fact that I loved Rock/Metal music growing up. And Linkin Park and Slipknot were my two favorite bands growing up. But one day my ex introduced me to this band called Avenged Sevenfold. And after that it was history! I literally started playing guitar because of Unholy Confessions. I’ve been playing guitar now for about 13-14 years because of A7X. But when the Rev died it really did hurt me because A7X was the band that made me ok with listening to Rock out in the open. And on top of that A7X was the first ever Rock/Metal concert that I had ever been to! It was A7X along with Papa Roach.

The most IMPORTANT thing to remember from Rev's story is to pick up on changes in a person's behavior or mental state and always ask the hard questions. Never assume someone else will.

Jimmy had one of the raddest singing voices out there man. Ridiculously talented. Every member of A7X is such a classy musician in his own right. A true loss. RIP.

"So Far Away" is one of the best grief songs ever.

Still remember hearing the news like it was yesterday. Didn’t want to believe it, such an inspiration that went too soon. Nearly 13 years later and still just as tragic.

As an addict I seriously grieve for this man. It’s hard out there. The one thing that brings you happiness kills you at the same time.

I’m glad I got to see them with the rev before he passed. I still can’t believe they actually came to our small hometown. I still remember the euphoria I had when I found out another one of my all time favorite drummers would not only step in to record for him but also go on the following tour with them. Still blows my mind to this day. Save me is still a criminally underrated track by them.

This dude is the reason I love drums, play drums and love music.

Waking the Fallen has helped me through so many hard times. Rest easy Rev.

One ominous fact about the Revs passing is that he was quoting as constantly saying that he'd never live past thirty. Also the song Brompton cocktail on the self titled album describes somebody taking their life with the same thing that the Rev passed away from, a blend of both drugs and alchohol.

A7X nails it on a technical level while keeping the songs catchy at the same time. Synyster Gates is just mind blowing on the guitar. Along with The Rev's superhuman drumming they were pro from the start. Such an eclectic combination of influences in their music. Great band.

As young as I was in 2009 I was shocked by his death. The world around me felt fuzzy

I wasn"r really into A7X until my son who was around 15, had me listen to Live in the BBC with him the night he bought the CD. I dunno what it was, but by time it was over, I was definately a BIG fan. As matter of fact, it's the album that caused me to pull out my old bass guitar, "freshen" up and start playing again. I then really started listening to the drum tracks and ended up signing up for drum lessons with legendary drum instructor John Bletch of the band Frostbit Blue. I became proficient and have been drumming t ok Avenged Sevenfold since. The Rev was the best, that's a fact!

I can't believe I'm officially older than him when he died, that is surreal. He had so much talent

I dated a drummer back in my early 20s and he was phenomenal. I remember the one song that was released on the radio and he pulled me into his car and he said listen to this drummer. This guy is fantastic.

Waking the Fallen might be one of my favourite rock records of the early 2000's. At least on the top 10. I never cared that much for most of the rest of Avenged Sevenfold's work, but that album really got me.

Had jimmy not passed I think he'd easily reach the level of his heroes and those of us drummers who hold in high regard that play. He was so great and creativity was next level. Miss em.

I was 49 years old the first time I heard him play. At that instant I told my son which was 17 at the time, that or if all the music is listened to in my life that the writer is said That's the best drummer I've ever heard.
