Thank you for posting this very helpful video. YES, the procedure you explained works perfectly! I encountered this "Toner Not Detected" issue after replacing my original Black toner cartridge with an after-market (non-genuine) unit. Thankfully, the after-market seller had included a little instruction sheet in the box with the exact same instructions as you presented in this video. And it worked like a charm. 🙂

Consumer protection agencies should fine printer companies for such monopolizing practices that limit consumers' buying options.

I have a MFC-L3750CDW. Always use compatible cartridges. I have a fairly new black cartridge in the machine, which was working fine. I had a power cut for about three hours. When the power came back on the machine was telling me to insert a new black cartridge. Followed the other videos I have seen about how to reset the toner but all to no avail. Had resigned myself to buying a new cartridge. I fortunately still had the previously used empty cartridge. I followed your advice, which was easy and it worked perfectly! I can't thank you enough for this advice. There must be thousands of frustrated people out there trying frantically to reset their printers who don't know about this.

Thank you, sir. You just saved me a lot of money - I tried replacing the batteries in my 3rd party toner chips to no avail, but your solution made it happen. Brother should be ashamed of themselves for screwing over their customers. I'll keep this unit going with 3rd party cartridges as long as I can!

This has been so helpful. I've wasted and/or returned countless toner cartridges because I didn't know my printers (I have both the MFC3750 and 3770) my printers were lying to me. I've eventually stumbled into resolving the "no cartridge" problem without knowing how I did it.
This made it clear and such a simple resolution to a repetitive problem. THANK YOU!!!!

Wow, it never occured to me, that the chip on those cartridges can fail.
Even though I have different Brother Printer (much smaller model) the Error was the same.
Your solution worked perfectly and I didn't even have to remove any screws, because the chip is just clipped in and you simply have to bend a small plastic nook.

You are a life saver! Other answers about resetting the printer didn't work for me and another solution was to buy original Brother toner cartridges. Using a used third-party toner chip worked fine. Thanks again!

No way! My printer has not worked in quote some time due to me thinking my black cartridge was empty but I could see 40% left. So first I solved the cartridge reset and then I had the Cannot Detect message. I watched your video, but there were two obstacles: I didn't think I had a blue Brother cartridge to replace my non-Brother blue cartridge chip and I thought I wouldn't be able to change the chip....seemed to technical or mechanical. So I walk to the carport to look in my trunk for an old cartridge and there sitting on my windowsill was a very old Brother blue cartridge! Obstacle one miraculously removed! Then I remove the microchip but I had to be careful not to break it., becuase I break stuff easy I got it out and place sit into the non-Brother cartridge and it works after all this time!!! Thank you so much. Not only did I fix my printer, but I increased my confidence that I could do something kind of technical/mechanical with an electronic part like this. THANK YOU!!!

Thanks a lot! I had replaced the three colour cartridges on my Brother printer and encountered this very annoying error. After replacing the chip on just one of my non-original cartridges, everything seems to work again. Your video is much appreciated!

Excellent advice! I followed the video along and just like the video says the printer lies to you about the toner status and then you have to go to that other menu described in the video to see the cartridge that really has the problem. I had exactly this same problem as described in the video and I was able to follow along and fix it! Thanks.
PS That's pretty bad that Brother Printers software actually misleads consumers to fool people into buying extra toner.

I had another set of toner cartages from another 3rd party manufacture and it worked. I too was upset as I tossed my original cartages. This is a great fix if you do not have the originals and do not want to pay $200-$300 for new ones. Ebay does have some empty originals.

I got a warning on my 3 year old MFC L3750 that my waste toner box was full. Ordered a new one, replaced it, but still had the same error. Turned out that the sensor contacts on the right side are connected to the PCB on the right with springs pressing on blank wires on the back of the PCB. Loosened up the PCB, used some contact spray, jiggled the PCB a little as to allow the springs to make contact again and put everything together again. Works like a charm again.

So yeah... the company "Brother" did a brotherly thing and sent out an update to fu, , customers out of being able to buy MUCH cheaper toner ... I wish I could slap their COO for trying to force ppl into getting screwed with their over priced toner.... won't be buying any more Brother products in the future. On the other hand you sir are the man. Thanks a million for the video.
