My movie of the year! so delicately paced through brilliant cinematography and scenes. Scratches the surface of a very real recent Japanese Shame. Incredible performance from the a real disabled Cerebral Palsy female lead. With all the talk of no women in cinema this is a testament to why there should always be. An incredible debut written and brilliantly directed by Hikari, cannot wait for that career to develop! Haven't been this moved by a piece of cinema in some time. Watch it!

Best movie I watched this year. First part was hard to watch, she is naive and gets taken advantage of alot but it could be much worse if she hadn't met that "guardian angel" in the hotel. The way she reconciles with her mother and sister in a beautiful way was so precious and is rarely portrayed in decadent western movies.

Makiko Watanabe was AMAZING as Mai, a prostitute who becomes like a temporary mother figure for Yuma when she's lost and confused. I really wish Mai had more screentime especially at the end she didn't get any more scenes to close her character arc. I wanted to see the ending to her story but also I wanted to know if Sayaka was a talentless hack who was using Yuma's talents, did her career fall apart after Yuma resigned?

Yuma's longing to be intimate was portrayed in a refreshingly tasteful and realistic way. The audience could be frustrated but also relate to and forgive the overprotective mother. Another small thing that's stopping this movie from being a 10/10 instead of a 9/10 is that there wasn't enough character development for the man who went with her to Thailand, we didn't get to see enough of him on-screen to believe that he would go so far for Yuma after briefly getting to know her and caring for her in a platonic way. I know it's cynical but he was a morally perfect human and it broke my immersion a little bit. They really hammered home that he had no ulterior motives multiple times - when he invited her to stay at his place and again when they shared the hotel room in Thailand. Both times he didn't take advantage of Yuma in the slightest and just wanted what was best for her, I liked his character but he had absolutely zero flaws lol. Although I loved his and especially Mai's performances and how they came to guide her and care for her in a dark world to see the light.
