If you've never seen it, don't be put off by that schlockily voiced over trailer. It's an excellent simultaneously horrifying and tragic depiction of mental illness. Deneuve deserved at least a best actress nomination.

I saw this as a kid, getting into the cinema with a strange adult. I was amazed! Sleep was difficult for at least a night after...I realized then that you don't need extras in silly masks to disturb your audience. Was it based on a novel? research required.
