I haven’t read the books, but I’ve read somewhere that Ian is depressed because he got married to a Mohawk woman and every time they tried to have a child, it ended with a miscarriage. After so many failed attempts, Ian was asked to leave the tribe because they believed that nature was giving them a sign that they weren’t compatible.

Can anyone who read the books clarify this?
