Don't need that metal piece on. I did the same. But cut it off in one go by just zipping the welds off. Sprayed a bit of paint. DONE. Haven't had an issue since June 2021. Didn't even buy that black plastic footrest piece either or research it. Just assume it would pop in and got lucky 😂
