In the first part of this year's hurricane week, I begin to cover the top 100 storms, starting at 100 and ending at 81. Also in this segment is part 1 of 4 of the 2012 storm summary in the northern hemisphere.
The top 100 storms aren't ordered in terms of the strongest in wind speed or air pressure, or its land effects, or any other individual feature, but rather a combination of all of its characteristics. Storms that are particularly unusual but not necessarily damaging may be favoured over storms that caused damage but were not exceptional. For this reason, there may be disagreement in how the list is ordered.
