"You need to provide evidence that God doesn't exist" That's easy. It stems completely from the fact that no evidence shows that he does. While true that a lack of evidence doesn't necessarily mean that God doesn't exist, but that you can't make the claim that he *does* exist without that evidence. So without that evidence your claim is moot and I no longer need to provide anything further. Hitchens' Razor, plain and simple.

I think that it is really funny to watch people struggle to promote their religious claims.
I grew up in an environment where religion never existed.
Of course I knew of the bible and we read it in school, but, to me it was a book of stories that was trying to teach some kind of moral. I always thought that it meant the same to everybody.
I was in my late thirties when I had a discussion with a young guy that was a creationist. I was completely shocked when I realized that he actually believed every word in the bible.
Many years later I started to look more into how religion twist peoples minds. It was then I learned that what I always had called "normal people" should be called "atheists".
It still amazes me that fully functional and grown up people can believe in these fairy tales.

"That which can be asserted without evidence (in this case "God"), can be dismissed without evidence". Uncle Hitch again...

Is Atheism a belief system?

Short answer: No!

Long answer: 🙃

"Christianity is the most reasonable of all religions."

There's another bold claim that isn't going to be satisfactorily proven.

The meaning of the word 'belief' is not the same as the meaning of the word 'fact'. If you tell a runner that you believe that he can win the race, it does not mean that you are certain that the runner will win the race. Religious people try very hard to present their beliefs as facts, at the same time as claiming that different beliefs are false. They are just different beliefs.

He spends the entire video strawmanning atheism, then asserts that he was once an atheist.
How would he know? He shows understanding of what the word 'atheist' means.

I don't like where this discussion is going about belief...

Are you telling me Santa Claus doesn't exist because I never saw him?

I grew up Jehovah's Witness, became an atheist 25 years ago. I dunno if it's better. I dunno if I should even post this. In reality I miss the warmth of faith and fellowship. But I can't dismiss the truth, which is no god exists.

... Mr S... you mean... Loch Ness Monster... Loch Ness Monster doesn't exist...?

Pointless Thorns, can you please define belief for us? My definition is that a believe is anything I think is true. If I hold a believe to be true but lack good evidence, that is what I call faith. A believe that has evidence for being true is what I call knowledge. Can something that what I call knowledge be false, yes. For example I know that my electric grid is 230V, 50Hz based on all information I have gathered from the specification of my electrical devices, but plugging a multimeter into a socket results in 231 +/- 0.4 V and 50 - 0.02 Hz. The nice thing about faith is that you can believe ANYTHING to be true on faith.

But is your god claim a knowledge or faith based claim? I see no good evidence for any claims for your god so far presented. So that points to faith instead of knowledge. But is there even a truth to be found with faith? I see a lot of conflicts in the god you believe in. There are many version that all claim to be the one and only true version, these version have slightly different version of a holy book, slightly different versions due to translations, slightly different versions due to interpretation (what is literal and what is an allegory?). It is a mess, how can I have any faith in such a mess?

But it gets worse, even all these different versions have some things in common, things that are internally contradictive, things that are proven to be wrong, things that are evidently wrong. These things make me believe christianity is false. This is in contrast to for example Hinduism or Shinto where I merely any evidence to make a rational choice to believe it or not. But guess what: you will have good reasons to tell me I'm wrong, apologetic reasons.

Speaking of intellectual dishonesty...

"Atheism does not make claims" is indeed a claim. But it's not a claim made *by* atheism, it's a claim made *about* atheism.

Of course, since he clearly failed Philosophy 101, I'm not expecting him to acknowledge the difference.

These clowns are almost always evangelical Yanks. They drive me mad with their pious superiority. Would Pointless (yes he is!) agree with Professor Dawkins? _"We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."_
