SaferVPN has some positive aspects but with its mix of Windows tech issues, poor speeds and lack of features I can't recommend it. This VPN does a great job handling many of the core features you want a VPN for, such as security, speed and ease of use. But, it does have limitations in a few areas such as torrenting and unblocking Netflix in certain regions. So today I’ll not only cover all the things it does well, but also share some reasons you may want to consider something else. Performance wise, in North America and Europe SaferVPN excels in all speed and streaming capabilities. You’ll hardly notice a difference in speed compared to when you’re disconnected from the VPN.

When using the VPN locally in these areas, you shouldn’t notice a speed reduction of more than 20% (which is satisfactory) and making international connections (such as Europe to USA or vice versa) speed reductions range from about 25-40% which again, is still good. It’s something you shouldn’t notice unless you’re downloading huge files.

Unfortunately things don’t go quite so well in the rest of the world due to the fact that servers are more sparse and speeds can vary quite a bit.

For example, connecting to Australia from Europe cuts speeds by about 85%. This means you’ll be struggling to download files or stream video content at this speed. And then using Hong Kong or Thailand servers can reduce speeds by over 90%, which might barely be enough for simple web browsing.

So while this VPN is great for North American and European users, for anyone traveling or living outside of these locations, while the experience is still usable, it may be too slow depending on your needs or your location

Now if streaming content is one of your main reasons for using a VPN, SaferVPN actually has specific servers in the USA and UK labeled just for this specific purpose.

So these servers actually have their IP addresses refreshed frequently in order to keep them working for you to be able to unblock content providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and many others.

But, while the UK streaming server can unblock BBC iPlayer, SaferVPN has mixed results with unblocking UK Netflix as well as other international Netflix sites.

So while it’s certainly worth a try, just don’t be surprised if you find you get mixed results using SaferVPN while trying to stream content, particularly from Netflix, and especially when you’re outside the UK or US.

Then, when it comes to torrenting or P2P transfers, SaferVPN only has 3 servers for this purpose (which are in Canada, Spain and the Netherlands). These countries are known for their lax legal attitudes towards file sharing and copyright violations which is why they’re such a safe place for torrent-friendly servers to be.

Keep in mind though that SaferVPN doesn’t provide any torrenting guides, port forwarding or anything else to help enhance the file sharing experience.

So if you only torrent once in a while, SaferVPN should be fine, but if you’re more of a regular torrenter, then there are much better VPNs out there for this purpose.
