The game does have many real ships but don't count on it, the devs have to make "fantasy" or "paper" ships in order to make ship lines work. And I stay with the game for 5+ years to see what abominations they add into the game.

It's as realistic as Goliath's pathing AI in SC1. It's as arcade as video games typically get - not realistic at all.
