SPECULOOS-3 b, an exoplanet located 55 light-years from Earth, is tidally locked with its ultra-cool dwarf star. These stars, which make up over 70% of the Milky Way's stars, are cool and dim compared to our Sun. However, they emit high-energy radiation that can significantly impact orbiting exoplanets. SPECULOOS-3 b receives 16 times more energy per second than Earth does from the Sun, making it a prime candidate for detailed observation by the James Webb Space Telescope. The SPECULOOS project, dedicated to discovering transiting planets around ultra-cool dwarf stars, continues to shed light on these intriguing celestial bodies scattered across the sky.
