Playing in a church years ago, one particular Sunday we played a song that evoked a serious groove from the band. A complaint was lodged, and in the complaint they stated that we sounded like Sly and the Family Stone. Of course as musicians, we took that as a very high compliment. 🤣🎸

It cool to see how Jamel’s community has stayed mostly nice, supportive, and fun on here. Good place to relax with good folks.

Swear to gawd Sly could make a corpse get up and boogie! He always had the best musicians with him! Keep on keepin' on!

Jamel, I was standing and watching at the top of the hill by the medical tent at Woodstock in '69 when they played their set at around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning (had to take my buddy there because of an asthma attack) and close to where the monument is now at the Woodstock site. 50 years later (I'm now 70) I still get chills no matter how many times I see this. Especially Cynthia Robinson's trumpet solo (RIP). Thank you for this.

Best performance of the show along with Santana. Sly wasn't "feeling it" before he went on, then he proceeded to tear the place down.

400, 000, nearly all stoned, half of 'em tripping and Sly says "I'm gonna take you higher" He succeeded

Sly and the Family Stone is a rabbit hole that you'll thoroughly enjoy exploring. Check out Every Day People next. :)

At the age of 49... this live version is still my all-time, hands down #1 song ever.

I LOVE this song... and that band was YEARS ahead of it's time.

That is what we used to call back in the day ....the horn section!

This is from Woodstock. Their performance was at 4am, and the crowd was in the pitch darkness.

“If You Want Me To Stay” or “Family Affair”. Different than the previous Sly songs you’ve done, a different vibe, and well worth a listen!

His entire Woodstock set was incredible. No crowd shots. Too dark.

The Bass player is Larry Graham, he is the uncle of the rapper Drake.

There were so many legendary performers and performances at Woodstock, it's hard to give them all their due -- Sly is often overlooked but he woke half a million people in the middle of the night and got them on their feet.
