Zelensky receives a standing ovation after European Parliament session

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy addresses the European Parliament's extraordinary plenary session on the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Mr Zelenskyy said: "We are just fighting for our land and for our freedom. And believe me, despite the fact that all the big cities of our country are now blocked, no one will enter our freedom and state. Believe me."

because people keep thinking this is a “thoughts and prayers” situation and getting mad: That’s not what this is at all. On Sunday the EU agreed to provide half a billion dollars for arms and other military aid to Ukraine, which is the first time the EU has ever provided aid for military operations in its entire history. This is in addition to individual EU countries sending arms to the Ukraine. They have also agreed to welcome all Ukrainian war refugees. Further, Ukraine has now applied for EU membership (a big reason for the speech), and it is now likely there are going to be formal talks on admitting Ukraine to the EU.
