Christopher Columbus was one of the most courageous of the world’s explorers. He embraced risk in an era when the blinding expanse of the Atlantic Ocean frightened the Europeans.
The cartography of the day was incorrect, as he learned through bitter experience. Columbus is credited with the discovery of America but never realized it during his lifetime. His career as a navigator was peppered with mishaps that shattered the ignorance of the age. Although he was no scientist, Columbus initiated new fields of study and analysis.
In 1492, he landed at San Salvador in the Islands of the Bahamas, and he was the first European to have explored the Caribbean Sea. He was the first European to set foot in Cuba, Haiti, and Trinidad, as well as the countries in Central America. Columbus’s voyages astonished all of Europe and started a virtual stampede of competitors in search of the East Indies by sailing west.

The Portuguese sailors who had led the Age of discovery with vast passion and ambition inspired adventurers like Columbus. A curiosity was the main urge to discover new lands. And the first step taken of it began with the Age of discovery.

Columbus' remarks surrounding the indigenous "servants" says a lot about our nature..

I say it this way: Leif Erickson discovered the America's. Christopher Columbus discovered the new World. Columbus brought back the knowledge of the America's which Amerigo Vesputchi figured out and published. Everybody thought it was nothing but ocean to the west and that a ship would never make it all the way to the far east before running out of fresh water. So several people deserve credit.

Very good narrative of Cristofer Columbus history.. better than the one they teach at school...👍.... I'm a fan and history researcher of the Tainos and Arawak history from 1492 to 1560...and any other history of the Americas including the pirate's in the the area of the Caribbean 🤔

How come so many explorers wanted to enslave the native people, wherever it was they went? After all, they were there first! Call me naive (or maybe even stupid) but what about each trying -despite language and cultural barriers - to work together and compromise? It must have worked that way sometime.

Why display the banner of a former, unrelated British possession though ?

Why to you have an American Flag in. the thumbnail? When people say Columbus discovered America, its jot in reference to the United States.

Christopher Columbus didn't "find the new world, " because it wasn't lost

They didn't say "land ahoy!", you silly goose... These were Spanish sailors who discovered America, it was Rodrigo de Triana, who spotted land and he most likely said: ¡Tierra a la vista !

i enjoyed the video very much. Question: In Quebec and all Latin America and many countires of the world are taught that America is a continent with 3 zones North Central and south, and understanding that Central America definatley exist as a distinct region, where and how did America as been used as a country ? We know USA is a country, but America alone is not USA

I never heard about ottoman boycotted trade with china, as far i knew ottoman closed the road fpr european because of religious war, never heard about ottoman hating china, what was the cause? I think other factor that closed the silk route was ottoman safavids enmity, although both are muslims but the ottoman is sunni and the later is shia

For 500 years Columbus was the biggest hero on earth. Look what's named after him, the country of Columbia, Washington District of Columbia, Columbus Ohio, Columbia, SC, Columbia Exposition, etc. In 1937 the U.S. created a national holiday in his honor, Columbus Day.

Then the Woke Crowd and their 'critical theory' set out to destroy Western civilization, and our hero Columbus had to be go. It only took 50 years to un-do 500 years of glory. In 1990 his National Holiday was renamed Indigenous People's Day.

They began by mocking Columbus, saying "he never set foot in America". Then got dirty, blaming him for genocide of the American Indians. How did he do that if he never even set foot in America?

The way Columbus attempts these many ventures to India, there must be very grandest thing he'd had have expected.

We are a result of that mixture… of that culture shock. We are the result of history and we shall continue being like that. These were certainly other times and we may not be able to comprehend (nor judge) these times with our current values and virtues. I find people have resentment with CC… but it was the same ALL over the world… or you think the indigenous locals wouldn’t fight each other to death? When Pizarro came to what is now Ecuador and Peru, he saw the extend of the civil war between Huayna Capac and Atahualpa (that were brothers) were fighting to conquer the Inca Empira (it is WAY more complex than this I know)… at the end, the Spaniards took advantage of that and did what they wanted to do. Conquer land. Remind that the were also conquered by the Moores and Arabs for almost the entire Middle Ages… and in fact they were “freed” from the last Muslim stronghold, Granada, in 1492. Yes the same year. Curious isn’t?

What does this have to do with the American flag? If you mean 'America' to mean 'The Americas' then yes, he discovered that, but that is a rare interpretation in Western circles 😀.
