Are Women REALLY OPPRESSED In Afghanistan? I Was Shocked By What I Saw.

I knew my trip to Afghanistan would include meeting women and I wanted to know the truth about their lives. So much good has happened in the country with peace reigning after 40 years of conflict, but one thing is for sure, it's bad news for women and there is no way of hiding from it. Watch this video and you can draw your own conclusions. Mine are that whilst many things are good, this is one area that will keep this country internationally isolated until it changes.

I also take you to Bamiyan to witness one of the biggest mistakes the previous Taliban regime made back in 2001. And I seek out a child in need of a warm jacket.

0:00 Coming up
0:19 I visit the only Women's Bazar in Afghanistan
3:14 Staying at luxury hotel Gholghola in Bamiyan/Bamyan
6:50 The story of the Buddhas in Bamyan - yes the Taliban blew them up
8:33 What's left of the Bamiyan Buddhas?
11:09 Meeting women in a village to see what life is like
13:30 The desperate story of a woman in Afghanistan
15:40 The biggest mistake the Taliban have made
16:06 Going in search of a child to give a warm jacket to
18:41 An invite for chai
20:41 Meeting a lady who's husband has died
22:45 Going to Shamama restaurant in Bamiyan

I do hold hope that the new regime can wake up to the realities of modern day life and basic human rights, but they have some serious work to do.

I met a girl from Afghanistan who was studying in the US. She gave me a marvelous hint to learn another language. She was learning Turkish. She said if you can find a book written in the language you want to learn, and you copy the words, writing every day, then when you hear the words ( she was in class only once a week), the words are already in order and correct in grammar and spelling so they stick with you.
The fact that the children wanted pens and notebooks tells me that even the smallest child knows that words are their future. I pray that all of the Afghans can be free to live and move and have their being in learning in safety, growing in wisdom and compassion and happiness! Much love to them all! Thanks for this video!

When you gave the boys those coats I lost it. The first young man's smile was all I needed to set the tears off. He was so so so happy! And then the mother or whomever the woman wanted to give you tea to repay you for your kindness. Just beautiful! The small things we take for granted like a warm winter coat can mean everything to someone who doesn't have one. Thank you for sharing your experiences in Afghanistan. ❤

The strange thing is here is a woman travelling on her own in a county that is regarded as being dangerous for women she seems safe and protected. Then you have a couple travelling through India, and the woman got gang raped in daylight on the side of the road, and her partner got beaten up. It was on the news a few months back. Just makes you think.

Absolutely amazing. I follow Drew Binsky but his perspective is from a male. I have been wanting a female's perspective for so long. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you for your video. It shows way more realistic truths than the other videos I have seen who are men going to Afghanistan, and they show how they had no troubles and so forth.
But those videos by men seem clueless because their lenses did not show or speak of what life is like for females, etc.
Im glad that you show what life is like for women while still respecting their country.
I remember when those massive budda statues were blown up. I did not realize how huge they were. Such old history destroyed.

Hi Carrie,

I just watched your video and found myself deeply moved. It’s currently 13:20 on Friday, August 9th, 2024, and I'm taking a break from my work here in Germany, where I’m employed in an IT firm. Originally from Afghanistan, I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to educate myself and work professionally in Europe. Despite this, I often find myself missing Afghanistan and experiencing a complex mix of emotions.

Your video resonated with me on a profound level. The way you explain and present your content is genuinely heartwarming. I know many Afghans who would greatly appreciate seeing more of your work. Please continue with the excellent job you're doing.

Thank you for your contributions and for sharing such meaningful content. Also, please extend my gratitude to your husband for his support, even if he may not have a direct role in your work.

Bless you and your family.

Warm regards,
Q

Now women cannot look at men or speak in public.. it's been 3 weeks since this was posted. Huge step back and pray for our sisters.

The sad thing is, the women can’t wear their cultural dress and walk out in public. The niqab and abaya is the national dress now.

You did such a great job showing the darkest side of Afghanistan and millions of women. I wish whoever visits Afghanistan should show how abandoned and hopeless women in Afghanistan are.

Thank you for making these beautiful and educational videos Carrie. I love watching your content about country’s like Afghanistan. My heart breaks for the women who are no longer allowed to work or go to school. The people are always so polite and welcoming.

How fantastic, Carrie, that you are a Brit visiting Afghanistan. I am a Brit too, and will be travelling the Silk Road next year. I had thought it was, sadly, off my list. I will definitely reconsider now. Thank you for this beautiful video. I'll be donating to your justgiving for the women and children there.
