Want vs. won't!

WANT has the /ɑ/ as in father sound [wɑnt]. Make sure to open the mouth when you say this word! If you don't open your mouth enough, it won't be as clear, and might sound like the next word.

WON'T has the /oʊ/ as in GO sound. [woʊnt]. For this sound, round your lips and lengthen the vowel!

your pronunciation of want is very accent dependent. many english accents, including my own, do not pronounce the a in want like the a in father, and we get along just fine. I have never mistaken the two words, want vs won't, when spoken by a native english speaker, mainly because of context. I don't know of any case where you can substitute one word for the other, forming a grammatically correct sentence which someone would actually utter.

If we drop t, it stands out won. We know won=one.
Ain't they homophones?
