Показать описание
A male Spanish Sparrow taking a dust bath at Pittulongu Beach, Sardinia. Sparrows are one of many bird species that take dust baths. They create a small hollow and use their wings to help distribute the dust over their body. It’s thought that a dust bath helps Sparrows get rid of parasites, dry skin and excess preen oil. Preen oil is produced in the uropygial gland and used during preening to help keep feathers in good condition.

Saw some house sparrows having a dust bath in my garden recently, they look like they were really enjoying themselves and so does this one.

Good morning My Birding Year, thank you for a wonderful video as always. The sparrow was most certainly enjoying the sand bath, personally for me I will give it a miss 😄
