Upscaling with AMD's RSR

If you have a new AMD graphics card, RSR is an easy way of upscaling from lower resolutions to retain image clarity and sharpness, and works on almost any game. It comes with a low performance penalty, and would be ideal in CS:GO where everybody insists on playing it at 320p
And no it won't get you VAC banned or Steamdeck will ban everybody lul

QUESTIONS:
*CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT UPSCALING?

*WILL IT SLOW MY PC DOWN??
-Depends on the game and system you're using, but in CS:GO?... probably. More so than you'd want it to, but less so than a significantly higher resolution.

*SO WHO WOULD USE THIS?!
-Pros, probably. They game on beastly rigs that are seriously CPU-limited at the settings and resolutions they use. Makes sense they might as well use that extra power to make it not look quite so awful. Anybody with a powerful graphics card could probably enable upscaling, reap the image quality rewards, and the extra sharpness, but without much of a framerate penalty.

*WILL IT WORK ON MY GPU???
-Only one way to find out. See if 'RSR' is there in the AMD control panel, and if it is, you're in luck.

*WHICH IS BETTER, NIS OR RSR???
-Depends on your settings and use-case. Ultimately it mostly depends on which graphics card you have. RSR seems to be the more flexible system, but like most things with AMD, so while RSR only came out a few days before this video, I've been using this kind of upscaling for months already because Nvidia supported it ages ago, to little fanfare.

-It's a useful tool to know about, even if you don't specifically want to use it in CS:GO. I'm currently using it in Deus Ex Human Revolution, because even though I've got the power to run it at 4K natively, the HUD is too small. Upscaling keeps the HUD readable, while reducing how bad the game looks at its lower resolution. So it's worth knowing about upscaling, even if you don't need it right now!

R9 290 user right here found something called "radeon image sharpening" turned it on and was blown away at the difference it made also its configurable

Heyo! Coming here to just let you know: FSR actually has a sharpening option, it's called CAS (Contrast Adaptive Sharpening), I am not able to tell you however how you can enable and configure it in Windows, I haven't booted in a while so I just deleted it.

AMD does have a sharpening thingy in the drivers, Radeon Image Sharpening, that might be why there's no sharpening option in RSR. you should try if RIS actually affects RSR results

Something to note if you're interested in buying an AMD card: RSR now has an image sharpening slider, among other general improvements that released recently. I've had no issues so far, but do note that RSR is not as refined as DLSS (yet (hopefully)).

CS:GO is a poor example of what RSR can do, Warzone I'm seeing insane improvement! Now I'm playing at 4k ultra and getting the same average FPS I was @1080 medium settings before RSR.

I previously posted a comment related to an FPS and Ping problem in CS:GO. It seems to have gone A LOT better since I increased the Core Clock from 1366 MHz to 1420 MHz and The Memory Clock from 2000 MHz to 2250 MHz. I also increased Power Limit and Temp Limit to further decrease issues and it also has gone well.
I didn't test it in deathmatch, but with the default 9 bots (10 if you include the player) in Casual, my FPS went from 60-130 to around 160-310.
I also tested it in Arms Race, and it was the same thing. Not only that, my ping actually decreased by a medium bit, and it also seemed to decrease microstutters.
I'm going to test it on the FPS Benchmark map with my overclocked GPU soon along with the increased bots in both Casual and Deathmatch. (Yes, my still specs are still the same in the comment I posted previously).
Not only that, I seemed to reinstall and even upgraded my drivers to the latest one (3/9/2022) from the January or February driver and it seemed to help a little bit.
