I've had Minecraft for a while and i am living in a cave. My first death was from a zombie, but that was because i let him in to kill me.
Pumpkins. You can make Pumpkin Pie with it. I think you need something and sugar to make some.
*About stealing their carrots* Oh Pinkie Rose i have done worse. I stole the Trader's house and i let them die. If that's not evil, i don't know what is.

Sounds like possibly you had a partial power cut or power fluctuation. Why the printer part? They have a habit or randomly moving for some reason, I don't know why. You'll have trouble with the Feed the Beast mod I suspect. Lots of powerful and weird/creepy enemies that can wipe the player out (kill) in seconds in a variety of ways.

The 'jack o' lanterns' are pumpkins. They're a crop type and you can convert them into seeds to plant. When combined with a torch they make a jack o' lantern with a more powerful light than a regular torch. Not edible as is but can be combined with other ingredients to make pumpkin pie.
