I think it is a combination of paralax error (as from your videos its abovious you are an excellent shot) and playing to the fish's strengths.. because fish move from side to side when they swim, you stand a far greater chance of missing the shot when shooting from above as apposed to shooting from the side.. also, this allows them to react faster, when they sense a threat from above, by moving either to the side or forwards..

It seems that fish went miliseconds before arrow was out of speargun happened to me alot . To me was the problem that the fish heard sound of pressing trigger on my gun the moment i pressed it they just went gone nice video tho :D btw i missed even bigger i actualy could touch the fish with my speargun it was like 1 cm from it and i still missed it >.<

When you are that close to your prey you start to loose the references normaly used for most shots so a seeminly easy shot becomes difficult. Personally i like the fish to be a couple of metres away for the shot. Any closer and i start doubting.
