Several major automakers have recently expressed doubts or concerns about the feasibility and profitability of EVs, and some have even scaled back or postponed their EV plans.

The latest and perhaps the most surprising voice of caution came from Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, who warned of a potential problem for EVs in the near future.

So, what did he say exactly, and what does it mean for the future of EVs?

Hold off for ten more years before buying an EV.

CEO of a company that is lagging in a certain technology says that technology is unviable. In other news, grapes are real sour.

The solution isn't to force EV's with mandates now.

If you mandated every vehicle to have some sort of hybridization by 2030, then come 2040, mandates that 50% of a cars power be electrified (like F1), then make that 75% by 2050, and 100% by 2060 it would allow time for the tech to develop and the charging networks.

Also, be mindful you can build 100 hybrids with the batteries you use for just 1 EV. I'd rather take the 100 vehicles that get 45-50MPG.

Does not matter what the car, you need to carry a spare tire in case of emergencies.

Your views are that of an urbanite. Rural parts of the country have different needs. There needs also needed to be addressed not just the people who live in the cities. Ben

BEV failed 100 years ago. None of the reasons they failed have been solved.

This video is 4 years old, now there is Xpeng Motors doing very very accurate adjustments to reduce risks. And there are now solid battery which will arrive soonly, and the rapidity of recharge (100km in just 5 minutes charge) will spare battery size. And Dye Casting with Mega press allows to spare lot of weight... Stellantis does not have solution so they speak for their customers, not to others... Staff COM Mobility PSC should have standardized all car sharing systems, especially car rental... Bill !T should automatize positive retribution !

Pointing to the weight as the problem is like running someone over with a semi and obsessing over their hang nail.

The elephant in the room is the strip mining of precious metals, coal fired power plants, and millions of discarded cars that aren't worth the cost of replacing the battery.

These cars last about 150-200 thousand miles before the batteries go bad...

Then the toxic batteries end up becoming another environmental disaster.

It's far better to have a car like we were producing in the late 90's and the early 2000's because they were expected to last for 300 thousand miles and could be rebuilt fairly cheaply.

Strip mining just to discard the product only after what should be half or less of its life so it can end up in a landfill is a stupid decision that results in twice the production and toxic waste when you could be going twice the miles and recycle the car.

A clean EV is just a dream....Currently, they are extremely polluting in manufacturing and usage, all that electricity needs to come from somewhere to make and use EVs need to come from somewhere. All the new batteries proposed are always 5 to 10 years in the future to be cost effectively available. Public transportation is a non-starter in the USA. It would never come close to the needs and desires on how people travel in this country.

The battery technology is definitely a large issue, but my issue is the mentality behind range anxiety. The proposed anxiety is used as a negative for EV's politically and environmentally and In most cases politics win out. The reality is I don't pull a 6000 lbs boat twice a week and I don't drive 250 miles in one day could someone please tell me why I should have anxiety?
At an estimated (4 cents) a mile "All" of the ney sayers stop using misinformation to drive your negative quotes and just stick to facts.

Bs.
2nd hand evs are great value for driving only low klms. Zero costs and minimal battery degradation over the time of ownership.
My 4 year old 55k klm M3 has 5% less klms than new. I'm keeping it for another 3 to 4 years and will still have 90% range. 100% updated software. FSD. Zero running costs. No brainer.
Keep listening to people w not much experience in evs.
Carlos runs a company that can not build evs profitably. Fail. Stop listening to him and GM CEO. They have failed ev strategy.

This is bull$hit... I travel all over the US in my Tesla Model Y. It is not a treasure hunt, my car tells me were the Charge locations are located. And most people only need these for Trips. Except when on a trip I charge at home, I can charge 60 miles plus on an overnight charge at 120 volts, or I can charge at 46 mile per hour using a 240 charger. I drive to Atlanta to visit my sister from 20 miles north of Columbus, Ohio, my first stop is the Supercharger at Meijer's in Lexington, Ky for 20 minutes, my second stop is the Supercharger on Parkside Dr, Knoxville, TN 37934 for 20 minutes and then my next stop is Druid Hills a community on the eastside of Atlanta. It is easy as pie.... At these 2 stops, I go to and take a pee and grab some fast food and 99% of the time the car is ready to leave when I arrive back at the car... This is all such BULL!!!
