CONFORMABLE AND NON-CONFORMABLE MATRICES FOR ADDITION, SUBTRACTION AND MULTIPLICATION | LESSON 2 of MATRICES
This video explains the concept of conformable and non-conformable matrices, so that any beginner can understand. In order to be able to add, subtract or multiply matrices on a fundamental level, it is important to understand when these operations can be performed on them.
This is often overlooked, but is a very important concept in matrices and is needed to understand the concept thoroughly. When it comes to addition and subtraction, the matrices must be of the SAME order. You can learn about the order of a matrix in our video below.
When it comes to multiplication of two matrices, the number of columns in the first matrix, must be equal to the number of rows in the second matrix. Take a look at this introduction to the operations of matrices.
The objectives in this lesson are to:
1. Understand the concepts of conformable and non-conformable matrices
2. Determine when two matrices are conformable for addition, subtraction and multiplication.
I do hope you find this CSEC Mathematics lesson helpful and that your understanding of matrices will begin to improve as we go along this series!
