THEY SAID IT WAS MODULAR... (a teardown says otherwise)

Today we durability test and take apart the new CMF Phone 1. A new budget device from the company Nothing. The CMF Phone 1 has user replaceable backs and a few accessories that can be screwed into the rear frame. So if you want to change the color of your phone on a moments notice - you can. However - thats where the modular ability stops. None of the internal components can be swapped out. The battery replacement and parts replacements still need to be 'done by a professional'.

Removable back cover and no user removable battery is such an awful decision.

After owning the CMF Phone 1 for several months now i can say it is really impressive what Nothing did here for such a small price. Regular updates, battery life that is insane and overall such a good quality for such a low price. This 200€ phone replaced my 350€ Samsung phone and it is in a completely different league than other brands that cost even almost twice as much. Thumbs up from me.

Just bought some ear buds from CMF a few weeks ago, they were on sale for like $26 and I needed some cheap replacements for using around the house and out in the garden. So far I'm impressed, they have good battery and range and don't sound like garbage. Excited to see more budget and mid range phones, plenty of room for smaller companies to come in and undercut existing brands.

Only nothing could make a phone with a removable back cover and a non removable battery.

I love how you were on their marketing bulletproof video and then proceed to shoot holes in the product in yours.

@3:16 The rear panel is molded, but the milling marks are from the mold itself, quite common to leave machining marks on molds where they "wont be seen" They will often even feel like tool-marks as the geometry is transferred to the plastic part.

I really do wonder if it would have been that much more expensive to make the battery replaceable. That would have been an actual statement that would resonate throughout the industry.

All that technology for $200 is mind-blowing

Honestly, I am baffled by the fact plastic was nearly abandoned as the material for the externals of phones, and when it is it just tries to imitate glass, becoming just a more scratchable version of it...
I think more phones should embrace the polycarbonate with finishes like these!

Glass and metal might look and feel good, yeah... but they end up being liabilities in the long run.
