My dividend journey began when I realized that two particular expenses in my budget were always going to go up and never go down. The two expenses were taxes and insurance. I realized that the dramatic rise in both will need some added income. So, I started buying shares paying dividends. I can now see that this will be the path I need to take to make sure those two expenses will not overtake my future income.

I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.

Job hopping has been quite prevalent in many industries and some positions more than others. But like everything - there’s a word of caution - especially as you climb upwards - if you bail every time either at the start or tailend of a storm - you may never develop the discipline and core knowledge/experiences of riding through or thriving in one. Like everything - sometime hard-knocks do build character. As for negotiating hard your compensation- just be aware the higher you ask the more that you’re expected to deliver!
