Some sort of bounce prevention technique Ryanair have adopted!? I've never seen anything like it my life actually. Applying reverse thrust in mid flight whilst encountering some wind sheer on final at London Stansted. to this pilots credit he didn't bounce at all but still..

ironically enough, Ryanair has never been involved in a fatal accident. no one ever died on a Ryanair flight

Thank god the passengers paid their reverse thrust fee.

Obviously go arounds are too expensive for Ryanair

The Boeing 737's reversers are deployable within 90cm from the ground . The pilot can decide to deploy them before touchdown in wet or windy conditions, so the aircraft has more breakpower at the beginning of the landing roll and avoid big bounces. He didn't do anything wrong, he won't get fired. He just got the aircraft, crew and passangers safely on the ground. Cheers from Brazil.

it works nicely. l deployed reverse gear in my car at 100mph and gearbox started scraping the road.slowed me right down.thank you Ryanair 😎

The pilot certainly wasn't planning on going around!!

There is nothing wrong with this. I do it all the time on flight simulator

nice to see ryanair’s new fighter pilots already in action

I don’t know if it’s the camera angle but it looks like he’s going so damn fast on final.

For those who don't know, bellow 10ft the 737 is able to select reverse thrust. Also that day when this happened, the weather was really bad (Storm Doris) and go-arounds was not a good option

Aviation: if conditions are too extreme and you're struggling to land, you must go-arou-

Ryanair: *AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!*

Whatever the theory is, he nailed it though! Nice catch!

Excellent pilot, knows exactly what he was doing!

I've done that and it scares the shit out of you. The aircraft drops like a rock, and for the fools who say it cannot happen. They have never flown the 737 classic. Thrust reverse can be selected below 10 feet RA

B737 has radio altitude Thrust Reverser activation, 10 feet or so above ground level ot can be activated. It is one of the procedures to land the aircraft approved by Boeing but dependent on individual company policy

There is a feature in the 737 that allows T\R WHILE AIRBORNE. if the rad alt is 10 or less, it can send a signal to the air\grnd logic relay, release the interlock and allow pilots to deploy Thrust reverse.

I love how so many people comment without knowing anything about plane of aviation... Perfectly safe and good landing according to the weather conditions.

I know nothing about flying a plane or the rules on the 737 procedure for reverse thrust before touchdown... watching over and over: This pilot absolutely smashed it! Commitment to land 1st time and it looked pretty smooth actually. Great success Ryan Air! The expression "Always allow for variable change" springs to mind.. The Pilot Did a great job in my eyes as a potential customer.. Did whatever it took to get the job done in the best way possible at that time. I like this video and all the responses below.

Thats actually really cool. Big props to the skills of the pilot for judging the right time to hit the air brake and bring the bad boy to the ground. You could see the plane not wanting to come down and there is a lot of wind blowing too on the air craft.

Nice way to see if reverse thrust works while still in flight makes sense on a wet runway. Great job!
