We explore the critical concepts of conditional convergence and absolute convergence. Understanding the difference between these two types of convergence is essential for mastering series in calculus. A series converges conditionally if it converges but its absolute value diverges. On the other hand, a series converges absolutely if both the series itself and the absolute value of the series converge.

We illustrate these concepts with examples to clarify how a series can converge conditionally or absolutely. In our first example, every term of the series yields a positive value, indicating that the absolute value of the series makes no difference to its terms—both the series and its absolute value converge, leading to absolute convergence.

However, when we examine an alternating series, the scenario changes. The terms of an alternating series switch between positive and negative values. By taking the absolute value of this series, all terms become positive, differentiating it from the original series. If this absolute series diverges while the original series converges, we are dealing with conditional convergence.
