The emergency plane arrived in new York the same day after a flight from Athens on TWA flight 881 and arrived around 4: 38 p.m. and was scheduled to depart for Paris around 7 p.m. on flight 800. However, the flight was delayed for an hour as there was Luggage on Board that did not match the passenger, although the passenger was confirmed on Board later. After the incident, the flight took off from new York at 8:02pm. About half an hour later, the 747 was climbing 15,000 feet when an explosion occurred on Board. A few seconds later, the entire front part of the fuselage separated from the rest of the plane. The front section went out of control in the flames. The rest of the plane was also on fire and started flying upwards before coming to a stop and continuously disintegrating. There was another major explosion before the plane crashed into the Atlantic ocean, killing all 230 passengers and crew on Board. The crash investigation was one of the longest-running investigations due to the many conspiracy theories that were raised. The NTSB concluded that the rupture was caused by a fuel tank explosion caused by a short circuit in a set of wires located near the fuel tank, which allowed the high voltage to ignite the gasoline, but many people still believe that the plane was shot down by a terrorist explosion or missile strike and is a government cover-up.
