WHERE DO WE FIND THE COURAGE? | Extinction Rebellion UK

Показать описание
A conversation with theologian Carmody Grey, anthropologist Justin Kenrick, and Extinction Rebellion activist Clare Farrell interrogating the meaning of courage in our times.

What kind of courage is needed as we enter an era of climate breakdown? How do we find courage when we see continued rampant investments in fossil fuels and other activities that worse the impacts of the climate crisis?

This is a conversation aiming to encourage each other as we move through this phase of on the streets rebellion, because how we respond collectively now affects everything.

1. Tell The Truth
2. Act Now
3. Beyond Politics

the fact that we are where we are erodes my faith that we are capable of the levels of change we need. And I do question if we don’t deserve what we get. I hate sayin that and I’m soo glad to be hearing these conversations💕

Two little sisters lost their lives when the wall in their home collapsed onto them whilst they slept during the recent floods in Durban South Africa. It is a heartbreak and tragedy beyond words. Africa and Global South need to be given priority and more of a voice on the global climate activism stage. Some of the most vulnerable populations on earth live there. Maybe the worst will be reserved for those who continue ignore the pain and suffering around them. Billy Joel was right in his song, " only the good die young".

The survival of a species is not predicated on its courage but on its capacity to react quickly to a changing habitat. As we don't even know this, our survival seems unlikely.

This is an encouraging talk. The scientists almost universally agree that this is an unprecedented situation in the history of the Earth. But hidden in that statement is the truth that none of us knows exactly what is going to happen, not even the scientists. The real problem is not that people don't accept or understand the science. The real problem is our almost universally accepted notion that we are separate from nature. And that we humans are, at the same time, the pinnacle of evolution. These notions are part of our origin story. They are deeply buried in our language and culture. These notions were created by religion and they are accepted by most scientists. The prospect that we are not any better than any other life form on Earth is terrifying for many people. Nevertheless these are the core beliefs that we must change. Thanks for starting this discussion.

XR has been in need of people who think this clearly and are this articulate. More of this and we can really make a change.

It’s heartening to listen to people who are connecting and feeling their humanity, thank you. We come into this world as beautiful complete beings full of love somehow through conditioning, schooling and experiences where we are hurt this beauty gets hidden. We are in the process of finding our true selves again, seeing the incredible world around us and the love within our hearts, what a truly amazing process. 🤗❤️🤗

The seeming collective insanity of modern APATHY is a function of the economic structure of modern life. Rules and appropriate directions to follow, all dictated by an economic logic, to earn your rightful place in the world.
This is what got me hardest about Marx, that economics is the base of the superstructure of society.

Activists especially with XR is they are largely non confrontational mostly very articulate more than most politicians such a divide its very frightening but equally inspiring to see the many supporting XR

China is heavily reliant on coal power.

The country is currently running 1, 058 coal plants - more than half the world's capacity.

My best analogy, which is suicidal without change, is the alcoholic quitting drinking. It does happen in the AA 12 Step program.

Thanks for this courageous talk. I appreciate rebells in action. My question about this justifiable rebellion is how can we wake people up to the science of climate change and overshoot, when the best science states that it is too late to prevent total collapse in the biosphere and human civilisation. I think it is more appropriate to have an assisted collapse to prevent excessive suffering and assist whatever life can continue. Sorry to sound pessimistic but i need to be real at this point.

Care of others is paramount especially with the collapse we are watching and others involved in direct action
